I would like to rip a video of a music track from a commercial DVD band performance however I am fairly computer illiterate. What would be the go to piece of software to allow such shenanigans?

The easy option would be to play the DVD on your computer, make sure all other computer sounds are muted and then use Audacity to record the sound.

Thanks but it's the whole visual and audio I need and it's to be used on a large stage so needs to be the best possible resolution. Someone else suggested using Quicktime to record the screen when I play it as a DVD but I fear that'll look a bit shit too.
