Hossack is also known as the duolever.
Chatted to hossack once at a bike thing and he gave me lots of info about building a feet first set up that was sort of a hub centered thing.

Check out the sidecars, now those are really scary fixated people.

I'm sure I've told this story before, but I watched one of the advanced screenings of Closer To The Edge, in a cinema full of non-bike people and the gasp of sheer, disbelieving, terror as the onboard swept off down Bray hill at the start was electric. You could smell the adrenaline.
I can't watch the races live.... -

Which tracker did you go for? I put a Datatool Stealth on mine (insurer's insistence), and I was impressed with customer service, fitting, app and functionality. But it's the first time I've had one.
Nice bike btw...

Datatool stealth is the standard BMW one. Had it on the 1250 and now on this. They’re great.
Snap on the nice bike!

This is my latest acquisition, a BMW R100RS which I don't actually have yet but the deal is struck. 1980, 19000 miles, one owner. I'm part exing my XT550 to give a bit of room in my garage. I can't wait, historic vehicles for the win.

That's rather nice.

That's lovely. Lots of similarities to my '79 R80/7. Missing the special slim gaiters on the front forks though, I prefer the look of the front with gaiters on the forks and they are great for protecting the fork seals, not sure why they weren't fitted from factory on those models.
Looks to be in great condition. I had a chance to buy a very similar one from a friend but the price put me off a bit. I'm still very happy with my R80 as well. I put a lithium battery on it a few years ago and the weight difference improved the handling significantly.

Nice fairing. Is it us spec? With the reflectors on the forks?
So which pipe and slipper combo are you going for? I recommend zip up tartan bootie slippers.

My mate has an R100S that he rebuilt 30 years ago after a crash. He twin-plug headededed it and added Mikuni carbs but until I compare them back to back I don't know if I'll bother modifying it at all.

Noted, might shoot you a PM soon! Hope the weather holds out to enjoy it.

Thanks for this, very interesting. He's so refreshing in 2024 when sports people are obligated to fulfil all the sponsorship obligations etc. Don't think I'll ever get my head around him surpassing a certain uncle. Bravo.

Bleurgh. That turned my stomach upside down watching Hickman crash.
-

Great to see Davey pushing on despite Dunlop and Hickman retiring. Can't remember ever seeing anyone get their elbow down at the TT.

My bike took ages to start this morning. 2005 varadero 1000. 48k miles on the clock. Yesterday was fine, took it out for a little blast but this morning it took ages to get going, to the point where I thought the battery was going to go, then at the last second it caught and started.
I turned it off and it started again straight away. Maybe just damp?
We had some rain last night....I've got new plugs and an oil change on the to do list but I'm such a worrier about getting stuck somewhere, if don't have the confidence in the bike I just won't ride it.

Get a multimeter on it.
But they don't cost a fortune, so I'd just replace.
-
• #25698
Oh that opens up the discussion/arguement of is it worthwhile to twin plug the heads.
Supposed to improve smoothness and fuel economy.
Are the bing carbs that bad? Thought the only issue was making sure the throttle cables are the same length to make sure the throttles open the same amount.
-
• #25699
Check the battery voltage (with a multimeter), both stand alone and when turning over. Also when running.
Probably worth checking the reg/rec conections.

My previous R100RT that I owned in about 1995 had a diaphragm split which was a pain so I'm thinking Mikunis won't have that issue. I'm in no rush.
Watching the TT is agony. Doesn't compare to anything else. The opening scene of Saving Private Ryan is tense, but the TT is worse.
