  • Ooh that looks vvv interesting thanks šŸ˜ƒ

  • our 3rd trip to florence and bologna but 1st with a child, has anyone been with a 4-5 year old ?

  • Bit random, but if anyone is in the machynlleth area Gwen is absolutely amazing. Only 8 seats. Pretty sure it'll be starred soon.

  • The head chef there used to be my LB when I was LCB on Hackney Marshes. Found out he was a chef and assumed he meant in the same way that I used to be, in a pub kitchen. Then he left the team and it turned out he was because he'd moved up to Ynyshir.

He's a good guy and the food looks amazing, but it if it's anything like Ynyshir they don't tolerate vegetarianism.

  • Where would be value for money (not spendy) in the King's Cross/Cally Road area that can fit a group of about 10? Maybe it's just my tastes but I always struggle when it comes to KGX.

  • Flat Iron if you're all meat eaters.
Pizza Union for cheap and informal (and obviously pizza).
Addis for Ethiopian (although I remember the Ethiopian wine being terrible).

  • Cheers for the suggestions. There are some veggies, plus flat iron has never really seemed like value for what they sell? Do like Ethiopian (how does Addis compare to Merkato/Marathon?) but not all the party are as adventurous. Prefer Franco Manca to Pizza Union but trying to do pizza as a last ditch resort!

  • I meet a friend, who is vegetarian, around there every few months and we usually end up at either Camino or Caravan.

  • Ah - amazing. Yeah - he's a lovely guy - you're basically sitting and chatting to him while he preps each course.
Set tasting menu and although not heavily meaty it's certainly not veggie/vegan.

  • Happy Face is also around the Kings X area for pizza - never had a bad one there

  • My area...(sort of)...
Happy Face is actually quite good but as you say... pizza last.
    There's Beer + Burger.
Caravan I find small portions and spendy for what you get.
If you can get Norfolk Arms top room and share bits it could work out cheap.
The Harrison could do a table downstairs for you.
Two Tribes Campfire (not a restaurant, limited food options but tasty mexican)
Casa Pastor it's ok, could probably do 10, maybe.

  • Will be in the lake district at the end of the month and looking for one or two nice places to eat at. Based in Windermere without a car, though, so would ideally be cyclable or within bussing range; but suggestions for places would be welcome regardless!

  • Jealous. Being the Lakes, you must book in advance, like now for the nicer places.

Drunken Duck. One of the best pub garden views I've ever experienced. Great drinks and famous food. You can get within striking distance (nearest bus stop 1/2 mile walk) on the bus from Windermere, take the bus to Hawshead change in Ambleside. Or do what we did if you fancy a medium hike and walk there from Windermere via the Bowness Ferry-Hilltop-Hawshead- Drunken Duck. - bus back.

Controversial, but Windermere is not good for food. BUT the cafƩ in the Jetty museum is great. The museum is great as well, a Stirling prize winner IIRC.

Other than that, Ambleside Fish and Chips on the lake, Old Stamp House Ambleside. Lots of the best gastropubs are hard to get to without a car, they tend to be up the end of valleys etc.

  • Didn't realise how in demand Old Stamp House was - but have just managed to snag a place from the waiting list and am so excited, thank you for the recommendation! Also going to try to walk to Drunken Duck after busing down and spending an afternoon in Coniston; your recs seem excellent and we are very grateful for the tips.

  • I finally made it to the current iteration of King CookDaily at the top of Hanbury Street, itā€™s the same menu and still hits the spot for this meat lover when most vegan restaurants leave me cold.

I had the jerk bowl today with puff tofu, it really was fabulous, my friend had the same but with the chickā€™n which was good but a bit heavy.

Iā€™ve had the pad Thai and the yellow curry at the previous joints, both of which were excellent.

  • My only regrets about moving out of London are food-based, and I'm disappointed I never went to eat here before I left.

At Boxpark I always just got drawn to What the Pita.

  • Good to see @hippy has opened a new restaurant.

    Spotted in Shoreditch today.

  • Spotted. I'm branching out my brand to eateries...

  • Went to Forza Win. Enjoyed the Custardo.

  • Off to Elkano for lunchā€¦

    Updates to follow

  • Enjoy!!! We went in 2022. Proper old school, we took my parents. Turbot for three and me as a vegetarian didnā€™t feel shortchanged.

  • Was sensational

  • So Old Stamp House was truly a revelation. Every bit as good as everyone says they are and perhaps one of the best meals of my life. Made my trip and all of that.

Drunken Duck was slightly disappointing however! Food service was very prompt but felt almost rushed; food itself was quite hit and miss for the prices that they were charging. Very tasty bread (even though underproofed) and oil and marmite butter; starter was great and tasty if simple - you can't really mess up slow cooking a shank, but credit where credit's due they had a tasty salad dressing; rabbit main was terribly dry (like a overdone chicken breast) and felt less cohesive than a roast dinner; and puddings were fairly insubstantial (a mound of egg-white mousse on sorbet and a few slices of pickled rhubarb leaves a lot to be desired). Great views as you say though!
