  • I assume it’s to bring more back from reform?

    Who knows.

  • Wonder how that will play out, assume reform can just go we would do that as well for the next six weeks, knowing they are never going to have to deliver it

  • I saw Ed Milliband talk [phone it in from his constituency in Donny for reasons unknown] at the Hay Festival* on the climate with Professor Emeritus Sir Dave King. Ed seemed very committed, knowledgeable and fired up to do the best he can do for climate change, while also being pragmatic. He argued with the crowd at points, including disagreeing with someone who said endless growth wouldn’t work (don’t know where I stand on this) and with an emotional and aggressive just stop oiler about their methods. The only silly thing he said was a reference to just stop oil protesters stopping people seeing dying relatives in hospital, as if that is the only reason anyone drives…

In short I was much more impressed than I expected to be, but I’ve just listened to Rachel Reeves on The Rest Is Politics and she sounded just like Starmer - said a lot without saying a lot.

*is this golf club? maybe tofu wokerati. Excited to find out.

  • "We had austerity for five years " Just ignoring the last nine years also being a shit show, so they can continue as things are.

I hope this is wrong and Akehurst isn't being given a safe seat. The man is genuinely dangerous.

oh look, a tranaphobic dog whistle fuck r*sie d**field, obviously.

a bit of light relief to end on

  • We're not going to be invaded so we'll never need 50,000 people to live in trenches.

Not for WW3, but WW4 will probably revert back to trench warfare, or simply lines of people with sticks & stones.

  • If you weren't aware that constituency is now gone and it's been replaced by a bit of a weird one stretching all the way up to Barnet on the other side of the North Circular.

  • So far... just from what has reached the press, I am firmly unimpressed.

That I was donating to the Lib Dems, Green, and a couple of indepedents only a few weeks ago, as a lifelong Labour voter, shows that I'm very disillusioned in a soft-Tory version of Labour.

You're prepared for the disappointment. Anyone who isn't, take a look at Labor under Albanese.

  • Tbh I don't think I've met any German under I guess 50ish? would did military service over the civilian service.

I was impressed with how fucking livid my dad was with the whole military service thing. I was a bit to tired to get into it and unpack his wrath. But thought it was a good reminder that for lots of boomers there are memories of French, Portuguese, American and Australian friends who were killed after being conscripted in aid of pointless wars.

  • Have they said whether it would be everyone or just men?

  • Are you entertained by how GB News will feel about non binary people in the forces making military parades a lot more fabulous?

  • Neutralising the effects of fiscal drag on frozen tax allowances and massive inflation on the state pension just reminds people about frozen tax allowances and massive inflation.

  • Between 1947 and 1963, a total of 395 (British) National Servicemen were killed on active service.

  • Tax cuts for pensioners eh?

May as well bring back hanging as well

  • Are the wheels still on the Tory election bus?

Tax break for pensioners, who pays for that??

Bring back Dad’s Army, get them out of their homes, picking up litter, fruit, give them the power to fine scooter and electric bike users on pavements. And those red light jumpers on bikes..

Those freedom passes ain’t cheap you know, we want value for money in services to our community

  • No, in Singapore national service is male only, which leads to (younger) women having a two year seniority advantage in the workplace, which leads to a degree of resentment from younger men here

  • @ChrisWChrysalis · 16m I wonder if predictions of social unrest and
nightmare disruptions in October when post Brexit UK citizens will be
delayed for hours at European borders to undergo finger printing and
photo checks was a factor in determining that Sunak is holding the
    election in July?

  • 🤣🤣🤣

of course it’s not bloody funny, being treated like a criminal on the run

In 2024, visa-exempt travellers will first need to complete an online travel authorisation application via the European Travel Information and Authorisations System (“ETIAS”).
The new system is intended to monitor migration risks and essentially mirrors the forthcoming requirements for non-visa nationals to get an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) in advance of travel to the UK.

Is this like ESTA for Brits to go to the US?

  • Tbh I don't think I've met any German under I guess 50ish? would did military service over the civilian service.

    I have, plenty.

  • ah! is this fake? i was convinced by the earlier bread sniff photo that it was real
    edit, googled it

  • When I stayed in Germany about er..30 years ago. The lads were saying they had easy ways to get out of NS and it wasn't strict anyway. Not sure If I'm remembering that correctly?

  • Judging my the phone in just now on LBC, the pensioners aren't impressed and like my pensioner dad are angry about fiscal drag and Sunak dragging them in to tax at the last budget so are having none of this latest policy nonsense

  • Your a fiscal drag
