  • What a fiasco it's been over the last month with the car. Chased a number of violent vibrations and a hefty miss-fire and now it's back running smoothly.

Replaced two snapped engine mounts, new spark plugs, new (secondhand) lead on cylinder 2, replaced a snapped ARB clamp

Walking home this morning I spotted the door slightly open - I had left the car unlocked as the battery was removed and in the boot. Someone had went through the car and stolen the battery, so I had to pop over to ECP and pick up another, £50 down but at least there was no other damage.

New battery fitted and I go for a walk around the block and spot the old battery in a bush. Now refitted and returned the new one. Lazy crackheads.

  • Kinda mad stuff that. Think this brilliant Clio gonna keep you on your toes

  • C4 has just informed me refuelling an EV is similar cost per mile to petrol. I'd assumed that charging is dirt cheap

At public chargers, yes it is costly.
Charging at home however is dirt cheap.

  • The price of speed really. I’m really considering chucking the new car in and getting an ev and charging it at sites when I need to go, is there an ev chat?

Intrigued about people’s real life motorway miles and charging off a 13a plug for 8 hours.

  • Rep.

In other news the old X5s last hurrah was spending a week parked up a soil hill as to not be smashed by tankers and a couple diggers. Reminded me why ground clearance is good and why never trust a civils worker who “cleared all the stumps”

  • Intrigued about people’s real life motorway miles and charging off a 13a plug for 8 hours

My Model Y easily gets 230 miles motorway on a 100% charge at 70mph in the winter, down to 10% so 250+ if you feel like risking 0% charge. MG4 is probably closer to 180 miles motorway. I do 220 mile round trips to Birmingham a minimum of 25 times a year and have never had to top up the charge when leaving home at 100%.

I've charged my old Model 3 on a 13a plug overnight in France a few times - it works fine. It would take nearly 24 hours to charge it from flat but it's basically 3kWh charge rate so 8 hours would be around 33% of your 77kWh battery if you had a Tesla or similar car.

  • charging it at sites when I need to go

I did a BC coaching course with a guy who had a ID3. He only ever charged it on site from a diesel generator. Not sure about the green credentials.

  • Now that is a wtf moment with the battery theft.

  • To be fair, batteries are fucking heavy.

  • I'm selling my Yeti and want a Jazz. I've done 30 seconds of research and found that 09-14 models are the ones to go for. Is this conclusion correct and is there anything else I should know? Where, in the range, is the sweet spot?

  • Took the Suby in for a wheel alignment yesterday, feels so much better now. Felt great before but it drives amazingly now. Any excuse to go out for a drive in it at the moment, I'm (almost) ashamed of myself.

Last pic for a while. Promise.

  • I have an 09 jazz, not sure about other years but get one with a panoramic roof and the bigger engine . Seat configuration is brilliant but seats are harsh on the 50+ lower back after 100 miles or so

  • Thank you, that's good info. I arrived at 64 last Sunday but rarely exceed 100 miles so I should be okay in the snake hips and lower back. My Yeti has a pan roof which I never use or look through so I hadn't actually considered a Jazz with one. I was looking at bigger engines as I still have my Pug 107 to bomb around in to scratch that itch.

  • True about the roof but it brightens up the inside from time to time if I’m that way inclined. Red apparently fades to a yucky pink so one colour to avoid.

  • I had a 2011 1.2 Se Jazz for a few years until moocher bought it and sadly someone drove into it. the engine only had about 8o bhp or something but it was fine and only needed consumables for 6+ years. If you were loading it with 4 adults it would struggle, but otherwise copes well. If you take off the front wheel you can put a bike sideways behind the front seats and the boot is still all yours. It did c48mpg on short runs, and c57 on longer runs if you drove it carefully, but why would you do anything else. They keep their value well which tells you what you need to know.

  • Thank you @johnnettles2 and @brandegg. I've had a red Cavalier and Astra in the 90s and it's rarely more than me and the dog or tip runs so it should be cool.

  • Collected Percy from BRM, roof rack fitted for summer adventures

  • A good day for driving something like that in this part of the country today.

  • Yes- Richie’s valley and surrounding area are amazing.

  • If I park on an incline my coolant warning light comes on, vw passat 08 plate. assuming it just needs topping up, is this the right stuff?

  • Have you checked the coolant level when the car is cold?

  • Depends on the colour of what is in there. That may identify the type. There are three g11, g12 and g13. Which engine is it, as it may make a difference.

Just googled anti freeze colours and it seem that the colour may not identify the type.

  • Anyone used Alamo car rental?

Are they decent or one of those shit budget ones?

    Cheers

  • Owned by Enterprise these days. More budget oriented.
