Does anyone know if the Zwift one hub thing needs a derailleur on the bike to work?
-
• #4703
Imagine it's a normal single speed, so you would either need a chain tensioner or a magic gear.

Was going to magic it but wasn’t sure if it shifted laterally.

Any gremlins I need to be looking out for when buying a used direct drive trainer? Probably a Kickr Core, as there's plenty of post-lockdown ones for sale around these parts, so any advice would be very welcome as not all that keen to drop 400 ish quid for one off Sigma

Nope it's just two plastic spacers and a singlespeed cog on the normal freehub.

Kickr Cores are pretty solid. I'm not aware of any issues with them that you need to check for. Only thing I can think is to check it comes with the right axle mounting kit. The Kickr comes with QR and thru axle endcaps, not sure its the same for the Core.

Thanks for the advice - adapters are totally the sort of thing I’d fail to check for!

Zwift going up a fiver to £17.99 a month? Going to have to seriously consider knocking it on the head.
-
• #4711
Yup I just got this email too. How much is trainerroad? It’s annoying Zwift don’t offer a yearly discount
-
• #4712
189USD/year https://www.trainerroad.com/sign-up
I'm paying 12USD/month though because I'm a precious little snowflake.

Only just realised that the little slot on the battery cover of HRM, cadence sensor etc is exactly sized to be opened using the CR2032 battery you’re about to replace. I’ve been using actual coins, butter knives and fork handles all this time

What!!!???

four candles? etc
-

Obvious. But the issue is normally that I don't have any batteries lying around to use to open it other than the one IN the HRM strap and I don't want to use the new one, because I avoid touching watch batteries, so the skin oils don't contaminate it.

skin oils
The what now?

"When it comes time to install a cell, you should be in the mindset that you never want to touch the cell with your bare hands or fingers. The oils on your skin and those in your fingerprints can be electrically conductive and act to slowly short the cell out if they bridge the insulation between the terminals of the cell, and some people who have more acidic skin oils can even cause corrosion directly on the cell itself (or even the movement if you touch it) as it sits inside the watch. Always use non-conductive tweezers, like those made from plastic or with wooden tips, to handle and move the cell around and if need be you can use the back end of the tweezers to help press the cell into place in a movement. If you find working with tweezers to be too cumbersome for changing cells and want to use your fingers, you can wear latex gloves or finger cots to keep from touching things directly."

Anyone got a recommendation for a decent floor mat? I've been using a basic yoga mat for ages now but its shit and I'm looking for something that's a bit harder wearing and heavier so it stays flat.

Wahoo do an expensive one that's nice but I'm still using a set of those interconnecting gym tiles I bought off Amazon. Depends if you need to pull it up/move it all the time or not.
£218!!! You could buy a whole fucking bike for that and have it setup for the trainer full time.
