Oh that makes sense, and I understand what you meant earlier now. What's stopping someone from chucking on their own 50/37 on wide cranks though? For the Crux it doesn't sound like you need the wide.
If it's of any use, I bought non-wide cranks for the Grevil, and with a 46t 1x (which I bought for road usage), the clearance is tight. If I upgrade to the PM spindle cranks, I'd probably get the wide.

If you have wide cranks get wide, otherwise standard.
I'd probably want no smaller than 45 for gravel anyways so wide is better IMO -

Yeah, OK.

That bottle is not coming out. Even with the awful top tube.

That's what side-entry cages are for.
and that bike is what industrial incinerators are for.

Has it got some kind of spring loaded dropper post?
-
• #30758
That's a Hite Rite, an precursor to the dropper:

Wow, that listing reads like an elaborate April fools' joke.

it does carry some serious Viz vibes doesn't it

Conveniently immediately after I spend £££ on 11s stuff. Still, I should be golden for years to come though.
2x because they know I'm right.

Actually, was thinking I could neaten up the Mason a bit by moving to one of their bar-end junction boxes and changing the bars/stem to something Di2 native or using the Y-cable or something. (I have no idea what I'm doing)
https://bettershifting.com/installation-guide/bar-end-junction-ew-rs910-installation-guide/
I presume the wireless 12s shifters won't work with the 11s derailers, but if they did, that would present another option for cleaning up the front end. Not sure how you charge it all though. Having to carry button cells for spares is annoying.

No 12-11 speed compatibility for road or gravel.
Just bar end junction with a short wire to right shifter and then another wire from that shifter to the left (needs holes in bars) and then the long one from left to junction B in the frame, dont need a Y cable if you have a bunch of spare wires knocking about
-
• #30766
I didn't get that far through the article (though I'm sure I've seen this setup documented on here too)
I have no spare wires. In fact I need another one because the battery wire in the Mason is frayed and I don't know how long it will last. My bar tape is fucked too so I figured if I was going to change the setup, now is the time to do it.
Do you know any bars that are already full of the necessary holes for this arrangement? 38cm shallow drop stuff I guess.

Ah, fucksticks, I have aerobars. I need more ports than that provides. I'll stick with the uglier but more useful under-stem junction.
-
• #30768
That is how I have mine set up because the bar end junction is actually in the downtube on my Cannondale.
Not sure on bars, but there are tonnes that have a hole near each shifter
-
• #30769
My r8070 shifters have 3 ports, one each specifically for satellite shifters
-
• #30770
Yeah but then I'd have to fuck about getting cables out of the drops and into the aerobars and the whole thing becomes a bit less 'simple' for the sack of a little bit of cleanliness.
Maybe for the Crux it should be done the Shimano way in case I want to add aerobars w/ shifters?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wi6k8V6UOow
Actually, you could just set it up "normally" and then, so long as you have one spare port, you could have a set of aerobars with a junction box taped to them and that can be your aerobar extension package.

Has anyone tried these 8 degrees flare Selcof bars? All seem like reasonable specs for the money
-
• #30772
Nothing, I think the Crux chart is just based on off the peg solutions. It’s not needed, but think wide would just make it all a bit less stressful?
-
• #30773
This is hurting my head lol
I have standard cranks but I think it makes sense to go wide, with wide front mech.
Less chance of it not working out and having to resell parts etc.
I think…? -

Topstone with "MicroShift Advent X 10 Speed Groupset" vs. Arkose with 8s Claris?
https://www.evanscycles.com/brand/pinnacle/arkose-1-gravel-bike-915759
I'd not buy either but if you were on a budget which would you buy?
Cube NuRoad looks better actually.

Will that 8s kit limit upgrades later on? ie. require different wheel or freehub at least?

• #30775
Agree. Sounds like the sensible option to me.
I’m guessing it’s because wide x2 only retails in 43/30?
