Internal length: 210cm & Flysheet: 100% waterproof
Doesn't give me a lot of confidence, but it's an interesting one. Wouldn't be the first one to test it tho. -

Will this work as a groundsheet ( with bivvy bag and tarp)?

It's a classic go to, has worked for me.

They've combined the Soloist and the Tarpstar. Side entrance is preferable but three times the price of the Soloist isn't.
Also it's only 200g less than the Soloist.

Looking for a cheapish 3 person tent, OEX Jackal 3 or Naturehike of some sort?
Anything else worth looking at sub £200?
Will be in a pannier bag on a fairly heavy tandem so not sure how much of an issue weight will be.

Anyone got a 1 man tent going? I was going to bivvy, but I started getting nervous when I looked at the weather :D
-
• #2908
Still got an ancient MacPac 1P here I think. It's pretty heavy though so if you were looking to bivvy it might not be for you.

thanks @hippy and @QueSeraSara. I'm after something as light as possible, as I'm worried enough about the weight of my bike, before I've put anything on it!

Everything in that shop is kit pron! If I could do it all again, i would get one of the pyramid tents, maybe with or without the inner. So much more useful than my decathlon lightweight, and far better suited to summer camping, with the ability to cook inside the tent safely. It's a pity they are closing down.

How did you find this in the end? Looking at either the single man or 2 man option and wondering how big it is as i'm 6'3?

I'm about to purchase an Alpkit Tarpstar 2 for use on bikepacking trips this summer. Apart from the Lanshan, are there any other light alternatives I should take a look at? Has to be sub £200.

Make a 3x3m one yourself, 20d Silynylon and a basic sewing machine, should cost you £100 and it's a special thing you'll treasure for a long time.

Lots on sale on backpacking light ^^
I have a mld trailstar which is lovely, probably over budget but they come up occasionally on eBay -

If you want a side entrance tent for the same price and weight as the Soloist, buy the Vango Nevis 100.
I have one. I'm over 6'2" and it's long enough for me (and then some). Quite a comfy tent and packs down into a 13litre Alpkit tapered drybag.
Currently about £90. -

PSA: If folks can handle condensation this (& a £7 microfibre towel) looks OK at £75.

Three-person ultralight tents - Alpkit Jaran 3 is leading the way with price/weight ratio, plus it has the vestibules which are indispensable for gear storage.
Does anyone know of anything worthwhile with the same layout from Naturehike/AliX?

Has anyone ever had a hole in a lightweight tent made by friction? The lightest Dyneema/DCF (18g per sqm) is not recommended for tent floors because it is said to abrade easily. https://www.extremtextil.de/en/dyneema-composite-fabric-ct1e08-18g-sqm.html

For a full three-person tent experience with inner/outer etc. it's not terrible, the Naturehike/Lanshan versions are around that too.

It's maybe light, but not ultra light.
My nallo is 2 people and the 3P version is 2.6kg. That's a bomber tent. I wouldn't consider the nallo 2 light really.
Anyway. If you want a nice tent experience that might be it, but you also asked for something ultralight, and so I'm saying if you want ultralight look further.
The new alpkit ultralight ultra1 tent looks like it may be worth a look, 1 person, 900g.
A bit pricey at £300 but it's alpkit so there will be sales at some point.
