  • Also stumbled upon this collection, not sure if been posted before:

  • Hagg Farm descent is a bit spicy

Solid entry for the understatement of the year contest

  • Never knowingly overbiked.

  • I’ll have a look later

  • Without even looking at where it was, I had already avoided this in my routing decisions just by how it looks on the map!

Seems there is a way around it by going West before descending..

This is the current WIP version, some inspiration from those Velotastic routes above, will factor in Bearlegged and Tallboy route files too.

  • Gear wise, would you say 35mm tyres on a CX bike and 40x34 as lowermost gear would limit the fun as opposed to a 46/30 paired to 11-40 cassette on 45mm tyres of the gravel rig?

  • Gears, I'd always recommend lower, but your legs may be much stronger than mine. I'd definitely recommend the bigger tyres though.

  • I would for sure die trying to ride that route on a lowest gear of 40x34

  • I'd look to avoid the road Shatton through Hathersage etc., boring and sometimes heavy traffic, others might say it is fine that know the area better. That first climb of the day is great :)

  • I’d agree. Castleton road is boring and busy, the Sheffield Road up out of Hathersage is a double whammy of a bastard climb and busy with cunty drivers. I’d be inclined to endure a bit of the Castleton road before skipping up to Hope Valley Ice Cream via the farm track, then Birley Lane, Cottis Side, The Dale and then down to join the route at Fox House via the Burbage bridleway (which is lush).

Bit of extra riding, bit of extra climbing, but way nicer / quieter lanes, you get to ride under Stanage which is always immense, there’s good ice cream available, and you get a bit of extra gravel in the Burbage descent which is great on a grav bike.

  • Or if that's too much of a detour, I'd leave Hathersage via The Dale, take the bridleway that links across to the Fiddler's Elbow, and then come back down the Burbage bridleway to Fox House. Also nice, much quieter, climbing The Dale is hilarious. But no ice cream.

  • I find the road from Shatton to Hathersage ok. Yeah, it's boring, but there's a cycle lane painted on the road, and if you don't fancy that, the pavement seems to be designated as a shared path for bikes and pedestrians.

  • I always liked turn off the Hathersage road towards Bamford, back on yourself up the nice quiet hill towards Burbage Rocks. Great road climb, option to do the crazy steep road out of Bamford or not and often a coffee van at the top

  • Just signed up for this: https://tordivide.co.uk/

It'll be lovely and warm and definitely not raining in May, right?

  • It'll be grim. Signed up obv.

Sheffield challenge looks fun. Would probs sign up if it weren’t the weekend after the Tor Divide, doubt I’m able to do the two in quick succession.

  • I've got a punchy 200km road loop planned leaving from Sheffield but will definitely need the whole day to get around, a up-and-back in a day won't work. Other than the city centre travelodge, are there any nice cheap places to stay as a base heading to the Peaks?

In case anyone is interested in joining the route is below. I think standard HDITP way out of Sheffield but taking in Winnats as well, and heading as far east as Errwood, and then hitting some hills on the way back. Might do a ride / thread if there is interest. Any tips or tricks to make it a bit shorter while keeping it above 15k ft (or above!) also welcome

  • Punchy says you? Absolutely fucking brutal says I. Sir William Hill followed by The Dale is going to hurt after 180km.

I assume you’re not planning on doing this fixed? Have you got a date in mind?

  • As someone who lightly tore their calf doing HDiTP last year this is sickening (in if I have a good few months to get fit...)

  • No date yet but 15/16th of June are clear atm. This one for gears (sadly). It also might be the inspiration to finally fit that 34t inner ring.

Would love to have you along! Could bring your local hitters too since it's not a route for fixie weirdos

  • Sir William Hill followed by The Dale...after 180km

This is self harm, someone stage an intervention

  • Sheffield forumers picnic at the top of Burbage that day?

  • You are a mean mean man, who hurt you

  • I see this event is this weekend, let us know how it went (and good luck!).

I did the jennride a couple of years ago, similar event and was brutal but bloody amazing.
