Checked out the SLGW003 (and the other GS W&W novelties) last night. I regret to inform you that it is really bloody nice.

The picture does it no justice (the cling film wrap doesn't help either).
It's the same width as my SBGY029 (on the left) but it's a much sturdier shape, longer lugs, more case and less glass. It's not a super slim/small dress watch but it's a really nice size. I like the dial a lot more than any of the previous silver birch textures too.

Have we done this?
Went live this morning and doesn't appear to have immediately sold out which feels surprising given it was relatively hyped up.

$4000 plus tax is quite punchy for a Chinese made non-cosc microbrand with an ordinary Sellita. VPC (COSC, entirely Swiss-made, also custom bracelet) caught a lot of flak for being three grand.
Not saying it's not worth it - I know the cost implications of a custom bracelet, and it has a lapis dial (if not particularly high grade), and a nice custom box - but it's maybe not the easiest sell right now.
Also they keep saying it's 33mm - it looks far bigger in all the wrist shots I've seen. Weird.

£3200 on their website, that much for a Selita sw100 is lols but I do really like the case and strap.

The price includes shipping but not VAT/import tax/duty, I think. VPC is three grand (€) including tax.

What is it? Small no-indices dial looks like it came out of a cracker…

Looks like it would be worn by Rufus on Bill and Ted’s bogus journey

Chunky or more appropriately blocky with an integrated appearance gives real 70s vibes.
Ils nice, but only £900 nice

Nah, I think there's enough in the finishing, bespoke bracelet and lapis dial that it's a £2k to maybe £2.5k watch. I think it's largely the small run (only 175 pieces - I'm almost surprised they found a supplier that would do that) that makes it £4k. The set-up costs are huge on a run that short and if they're not planning to do more runs in the future (and I'm not sure they are) you can't make it a loss leader.
Also it's the sort of watch where the price is set by the collectibility, as much as we all dislike that. It's designed to be a hype watch. You don't have to buy it if you don't like that.
I was reading an article by a Lange collector who was analysing the way they set their prices for limited runs, eg when they do a honeygold case or a lumen dial, and it was absolutely not really tied to the production costs. It's about the confidence the brand has to sell those pieces and how much the collectors want the rare pieces. Intrinsic value becomes quite a minor part of the calculation at the high end.

lovely, is that on a bonklip - details and how do you find it?

Nah, it’s a Forstner komfit JB. The one sanctioned by NASA for use on the manned space missions back in the day.
Super lightweight and comfortable, if a little fiddly to get fitted at the beginning.

I get all that. Just expressing my opinion of what I'd expect in a shop window.
However I still think Seiko 5s should be under a hundred and moonwatches should be £1500.
I don't think I'll ever buy another watch as prices are mad. £400 for some random 50s Longines on eBay being an example, my last one many moons ago was £75.

It has all gone completely up the spout, I agree. Accelerated by brexit/covid/the sudden increase in demand, etc. But the increase in manufacturing costs, especially for small brands that rely on external suppliers, is very real, as was sterling shitting the bed.

Still gets worn sometimes, but swapping for the GShock shortly

Oh well done, it’s a classic!
They have one in Gatwick Airport, south terminal if that's any good!
