  • tl;dr "don't breed"

  • Thanks Chris @clubman, this is pencilled in. I’ll message Twickenham CC. If I end up riding it’ll be my first 25 for five years.

  • Just to put it out there I'm in for @clubman (as I shall be calling it) TT. Will be riding out from Richmond if anyone wants to join

  • +1 for blue lifeline, and although I havent tried these, they look the exact same color like those used to be: ebay

  • Hi Sam, that's good news - I've just pm'd you the organiser's email.

Apparently there is still a question mark over this year's event because the Westerley CC have withdrawn and the organiser is now inclined to plead lack of interest from riders. I believe it's important to try to keep this TT going, particularly when so many others are falling by the wayside and we have the centenary in sight.

I think just one more forum rider's entry could make a difference, especially since if lfgss were a member club, that would make a team (it is, in theory, a team event).

If you do take part you should be able to read about yourself on VeloUk since I intend to report the event. I promise that I will only mention your actual time if you tell me you're pleased with it! Otherwise I'll just mention your name as a rider from a potential new member club.

If you need the organisers details, send me a PM.

  • I should do it, it'd be my first 25 for over 25 years.

  • amey lol

  • Sadly I'm racing South West Regional XCO championships that day.

  • Interclub 25 Cancelled

I've only just received this news. I'm really sorry to have offered something that has failed to materialise.

This was the decision of the Twickenham CC's organiser who says he hasn't got enough entries to justify running the event. Of course, I had no direct influence but I genuinely thought that some entries from the forum could save the day. I'm afraid the Twickenham's heart wasn't really in the project.

For the Centenary next year the Hounslow will organise; I am confident that , God willing, we won't cancel.

    More Member Clubs Are Needed

Let's review the event and the current position.

The original concept was and still is, excellent. The only award is the trophy for the best club team of three riders on handicap (let me know if this needs more explanation). This formula is intended to give slower riders and near novices something to aim for, something notably absent in most TTs. The long survival of the event should speak for itself.

The number of participating clubs is not fixed, but it has usually been four, and the organisation of the event (not a huge task) rotates annually, so each member club woul promote every fourth year. Over the years there have been many participating clubs, mostly now long forgotten names (eg The Spelthorne CC) and now we have the situation where two clubs have dropped out (Weybridge and Westerley).

In the coming year we, the survivors, need to find more clubs to come into the event. What about the lfgss cc? If any of you are members of clubs which could be interested please be aware that you would be welcome. I suggest you contact me by PM in the first place.

  • we, the survivors, need to find more clubs to come into the event

I don't know what response you'd get, but since you are sailing in their territorial waters it has to be worth at least asking Maidenhead and District CC

  • Thanks for trying to get this event to run Chris, next year as long as it doesn’t clash with anything more local, I’ll do my best to be on the start line.

  • Chris, not speaking in an official capacity but FYI, I think it's unlikely that Westerley will be featuring in this in future. Post-lockdown the main focus is now online racing plus Hillingdon. There are only a couple of people riding road TTs and there are safety concerns about the Fifield course.

  • worth at least asking Maidenhead and District CC

Thanks! I'm sure we'll give them a try.

  • I think we are assuming the the Westerley will not participate in the Interclub, although I'm sure the club would be welcomed back if circumstances change.

I'm not keen on the course - there's just too much traffic.

But now every aspect of the event is up for review, so the venue may well change. My position is that I will do all I can to preserve this (very) non elite event. I do want to keep the handicap team concept, but everything else can change.

As we know, there's a tide in the affairs of men, but we have no tide table and so no way of guessing when ebb will turn to flow. How often has it happened that something recently discarded as worthless old junk is suddenly recognised as a valuable classic?

  • What do people carry on long races/ rides when using a rear disc? Non of my pumps fit, my co2 inflator had a dial on the back I couldn’t reach.
    Smaller co2 without a stop/go dial?

  • Yeah just get a push on CO2 like this

  • Nothing is probably the most common choice. Punctures are not that common on main roads. I never had one in a TT.

But you risk a 10-mile walk of doom back to an HQ, hoping a returning marshall will take pity on you!

  • vittoria-pit-stop

The Zefal version has a hose, which is easier to use in tight spots
    https://www.zefal.com/en/repair/175-repair-spray-zefal.html

  • Sure, but it's hard plastic vs the semi-flexible head on the Vittoria. That said I've only ever used pitstop on a spoked wheel before.

  • it's hard plastic

    The hose is fully flexible

  • Having said that, I've checked my kit bag and what I actually have is the Velox version
