i have got the cheapest one from halfords and it works fine. but its doesn't allow the boot hatch to be opened whilst bikes + rack are in place. other designs do.
re compatiblity, they have quite a range of adjustment, but i'd guess your mini whale spoiler may be awkward. lovely car btw, future classic.

As far as I can remember the hollywood baja rack is one of the best for fitting the most types of car.

Don't think they'd take the weight.
Sorry Skully, I'm bored at work.

What car and does it have a tow hitch?

If not get one fitted.

Tow hitch mounted are by far the best bet- however I am not sure that a supermini such as the A2 would have provision for one?
Also being aluminium welding would not be easy.
Edit: found some info.
Audi do have a tow hitch kit, you will have to cut the bumper and drill the underside of the car then rivet in place though. Also be aware of electrolytic corrosion between steel and alloy parts.
part numbers are Towbar 8Z0092155 £260, Electrics ZGB8Z0055203 £70

I'm off to france for a couple of weeks in summer, driving down to the south coast with 2 bikes.
I've found a couple of rack options that seem good, but my car (MK1 Skoda Fabia) doesn't appear to have socket provision for a light bar attachment so that the brake lights / indicators aren't obscured. It looks like I need to have a special socket installed like so. Has any one done this or can recommend a qualified adult that can do it for me?

Anyone have one of these racks I could borrow/rent for a week? It’s for a Corsa.

I'm sorted for now, but I might take you up on this (i'll need to sort out shed space). Give me a week or so...

Thread dredge - .
What racks are people using and rating these days? I'm in the market for one that'll fit an A class hatchback. Do I want a roof one or a rear one etc?
-

I've had a Saris Bones 3 for about 5 years now and it's great. Easy on / off, secure, and folds away for less space in the shed etc when not in use.
Despite having roof bars, the idea of roof bike bars makes me nervous as you can't see them, and imagine they make a fair bit of drag on the motorway at 70.

I would recommend the Saris range too, the Bones 2 works very well.

Yet another dredge. What racks are good for a small hatchback with a glass tailgate, like a VW Up?
I want to carry three bikes. My adult bike and two kids bikes which will probably be 20" and 16". The car can't take a tow bar and there's no provision for roof bars on my one. Was looking at the Saris Bones EX3 but according to Halfords it can't be used on my car. Anyone know why? Quite like the idea of a roof-mounted sucker one like the SeaSucker linked above, but none of my bikes have front QR and it'll be a lot more convenient to not have to take the front wheels off each time (especially with kids).

You’d be able to fit roof bars with clamp on feet surely. That’s how I’ve fitted rod bars on my last two cars.
Edit: that said, my Alto leaked and the clamps have dented my Jazz!

I will say Saris say their racks don't fit lots of cars, but they do.
We used a Saris Bones 3 on a newish Discovery, which it says is incompatible, but it worked just as well as it does on my fiesta.

What do you mean by those? I have a vintage roof rack for classic cars which sits on 4 pads and clamps to the rain gutter, but there’s no rain gutter on modern cars so there’s nowhere to clamp something like that. Some Ups have roof bar attachment points but my one doesn’t have them.

Here’s how the Jazz one works. There is a gutter of sorts and that’s what the inside of yer clamp sits up against. The Up must have something similar as there’s this pic of one where you can see the clamps, it’s got rear doors though, dunno if it’d work on a 3 door car.

Anybody got any pearls of wisdom on these? I have a slightly less than usual hatch-shaped back I want to carry bikes on... I haven't any idea whether there's one out there that fits my audi A2 ...
Has anyone bought one they think is: great, crap, has a good compatibility with lots of shapes of car, or bad compatibility?
Many thanks for any expericence shared.
Skully
