Cold brew in an ultrasonic cleaner?
-
• #26504
Fusebox has started tripping when I turn the coffee machine (think it's 2.8kw) on in the past week or so; when I flip the switch back on everything works fine, though. Not sure what the issue could be?

It’s arrived. Just need to find a carafe.
Are there filter papers that are better than others?
I’ve never had a brewer so it’s all very new.

RCD or MCB trip?
Earth fault if the former (can be caused by something getting a bit wet or damp) or over current if latter in which case something could be fried in the machine such as the heating element.

Everything works fine when you flip which switch back on?
When you switch the breaker back on or the coffee machine back on?It could be the in-rush of the unit tripping the breaker (heating element firing up and drawing lots of current when it starts), or it could be an earth fault (current leaking from line or neutral to earth).
If it was line to earth fault, I’d imagine the coffee machine wouldn’t work at all.Water ingress could give you a fault that would trip an RCD but not MCB.
Heating elements are usually the things to go - something corrodes and lets water in or insulation fails and live parts touch earthed metal parts.

RCD trip, so sounds like it's an earth fault. Coffee machine works when I switch the breaker back on though. Where should I be looking for water ingress?

What machine is it?
Weird that it doesn’t trip the RCD when you switch it back on.You’d need to start fault finding with a multi meter tbh.

It's a c. 2015 Fracino Cherub! Doesn't seem to have any damp in the machine at all, either, from a quick opening of the hood. Just flipped it on and it's again come on just fine; times it's happened so far are when I turn it on in the morning, the machine cycles on and off for a bit and at some point within the first 15min or so the power trips..
Own a multimeter, but haven't the foggiest idea what exactly I'd be testing.

I use the Filtropa AromaBrown. The name won it for me.

What’s the taste difference between bleached and unbleached
-
• #26513
I also use Filtropa but the white ones (racist). I didn't know the brown ones existed, so will try next time I order.

I don't like the filtropa filters I prefer the white melita ones.

Are there filter papers that are better than others?
Don't buy these recycled paper ones. They always made the coffee taste weird no matter what I did or how much i rinsed them. I liked the melita ones that you can get at most specialty coffee shops but I have gone full Pulsar now that my clever dripper has broken (again)

I’ve ordered some white supremacy filtropa. Will try the unbleached next and see if I notice a difference.
Is the gold setting the best one or has anyone done any mybrew specials

ha ha ha ha. psyche.

Almost certainly heating element. Check for resistance across each of the coils with the power off. Infinite resistance means it’s knackered.

Put an order in with YB late Wednesday, posted yesterday, delivered today.
I only needed some beans for espresso but got a little carried away with the South American selection available.

The Colombian and Guatemalan are great as a filter. I don't think I've tried the Brazilian or Costa Rican!

Still on my first pack since buying a SPB couple months ago so don't know the difference between bleached/unbleached. Can't say I've noticed anything negative about the unbleached ones. Reading about it now though the bleached ones should produce a clearer taste. Which of course is going to ruin the rest of the coffee in the carafe for me now.

Sozza
Hopefully have some arriving today.
I’ve had a subscription with Bean Brothers Coffee for about 4 months. My wife has decided she doesn’t like it.
She loves Starbucks coffee so I won’t to find something that tastes like that, but good. Is there such a thing? Ideally decaf

Yeah I've personally never felt a significant difference between bleached/unbleached. Though I've never done a direct side-by-side test. But I've just went from a box of bleached V60 filters to a box of unbleached and I can't tell any negative impact.

GH?
DF54 has arrived. Ordered April 19th, so just under a month. Waybill shows it has come from Incheon airport in South Korea.
