I guess this is the same frame?

• #628
Yes indeed. After seeing that there's a somec thread here, I thought I'd post here too.

You sure it's a Somec?
Could we see a pics of the lugs cutouts?
-
• #630
No, I'm not sure, although the forks certainly seem to be. The second photo above seems to show a bit of what looks like a heart shape cutout, I think that's what you're referring to. The top of the seat stay does not have Somec written either but I don't think all do.

This bike here seems to have an identical frame: https://www.80velo.com/somec

Yeah but Somec always had distinctive panto and this one and the one you're shared do not seem to have them.
Forks are 100% Somec, both of them

Frame looks decent but kinda unremarkable.

I bought the frame. Haven't heard back yet from Somec but I'm pretty confident that the frame is legit and anyway, I have 10 days in which I can return it. I pick it up today. All the 1984 Somecs listed as having Columbus Aelle tubing, that I've found online (3 or 4), have no name embossed on the seat stay. In the 1983 catalogue, the Aelle frame also has no writing on the seat stay. The frames with Columbus SL or SL and Air, do. Those frames have Campagnolo dropouts whereas the Aelle frame has Gipiemme and the frame I bought has Gipiemme as well.
Here's a link to the 1983 catalogue and below, the photos of the Aelle frame therein:

Cheers

Few changes to my Somec from previous page. Now with added Shamal clinchers.
And the yellow pedals developed a creaking that even loud techno couldn't drown out, so they had to go. I couldn't find any replacement yellow ones that used Look Delta cleats that I have on most of my bikes, so resorted back to some grey ones I had in my parts bin. But grey pedals on a 90's neon bike seemed frankly wrong so I've been on the look out for something more in keeping with the frame, and today the postie delivered some more suitable replacements.
They look the same as the ones @JamesPaletti got for his Somec on the previous page, did you finish building that up? -

@user75204 I sold that one unfortunately, the build had a lot of promise, those are my favorite pedals ever. It’s tough to perfect a build with so many colors, you’re doing great. I’m on the hunt for another SOMEC, almost bought one from Germany recently.

Since warm sunny days are long gone, something to cheer me up is my Somec - Top Class in Columbus EL (unfortunately not to EL-OS version, so it's a bit more bendy)

Fantastic. With that paint/chrome job on the rearstays, a shame you cannot ride on your own wheel. And nice find on the alpes flite in that condition.

Great machine and those forks!
Got them on mine too and it's p0rn
Hi, I'm thinking of buying a 1984 Somec road bike frame. It has no bottom bracket or headset. I'm no bike mechanic and need a bit of advice on what I'd need for these . Also, I have no budget to buy Italian fittings and I'd like to use as much of a circa 2001 Ultegra groupset on my current bike as I can. I guess the threading is Italian on both the forks and on the bottom bracket shell. Can anyone suggest what budget options might work with this frame? And particularly, how I can use the Ultegra crank set? If I'm not wrong I believe the cranks fit onto an octolink spindle.
Thanks. I'll paste some pics of the frame:
