Well my trip to Mercian was short lived. On my arrival I discovered that the workshop is/was shut for a fortnight and won't be open until next week. My fault for not checking beforehand but slightly annoying as I had intended picking up another frame of mine (not Mercian) in their position. Oh well never mind.

On the Mercian front I am passing a pair of Campag Seoul 88's on Suzue Promax disco hubs across to a frient to glue a couple of Veloflex Record tubs on. I bought these wheels off @countryboj nearly a year ago and I've been waiting for a purpose for them. I'll look for a pic

I've found a pic of the wheels when they first arrived with the old Conti tubs on...

I've still got a brand new pair of Suzue Promax hubs to build up. I'd like some deep section carbon tub rims. 32h probably 60mm in gloss/weave and narrower than modern rims. any suggestions?
Alternatively some silver rims. Initially I wanted polished Araya SA 730 rims but I can't find them in the UK anymore. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

You are of course correct @kjlem The purpose of the wheels is speed lust and would only be occassional visitors. In fact as I drove home I was thinking about this. I have three sets of hubs to build up.

1. a set of 32h Miche Primatos
   These are a purchase from @teew and due to arrive in the near future. They need refurbing so I thought I might upgrade thhe bearings and put some ridiculou deep section chinese rims on. They can then float around all 4 track bikes as and when

2. a set of 28h Campag Pista Records
   These are a set I refurbeda while ago and I'm still pondering rims. Something silver would be most ppropriate I guess but what I don't know. I built some with Halo Retro rims a few years back and they were lovely so that is an option. I'd also consider some decend CXP 30's or Arayas if I could get them

3. a set of 32h Suzue Promax discos
   These are brand new and were at one time going to have the SA30 Araya polished rims on but I can't get them now. Sommething silver would give me a contrast with the other Suzue/campag rims but what I just don't know.

So lots of options and lots of thinking to do.

I reckon the Mercian will be versatile enough for black, silver or deep-section carbon wheels. I put 60/80 carbon wheels on an old 753 track frame and it looked superb.

On the subject of wheels, these arrived the other day from @teew. A pair of Primato pistas that have seen a bit of action.
The plan is to pull and replace the bearings and mirror polish the outside of the flanges. Time consuming? Yes. Economically viable? Maybe. I'm currently looking at some ceramic/steel hybrid bearings which should be an upgrade from the standard Miche ones

Latest plot twist, I am going to Mercian tomorrow to see about the frame but a friend has pointed me to a YACF thread which is speculating on their demise. This may account for them being "on holiday' when I went the week before last. Will update tomorrow

Yep they've gone in to voluntary liquidation FFS!
