First two aesthetic changes coming for the VRS. Black front grille surround and black rear bumper/sill protector. I keep looking sideways at plug and play, stage 1 remap dongles.
How stupid are they?

• #78278
Don't buy from them, use a reputable company. I'm sure others will have their own opinions but if you want a simple p&p box then get a Superchips or APR, or if you want something a little more dynamic get a JB4 box like I had.
JB4 requires a bit more work to fit but I can come fit it for you if you need.

DTUK was just what kept coming up on the Briskoda forum. In theory though, are they any cop? Seems most will get it from 220 to 300 without any fuss or hardware updates.

The question is how to attach it

• #78282
Bloody hell, from sensible people carrier to boy racer in two giant leaps for dadkind!
-
• #78283
The VRS can carry people too, just a bit more abruptly...

nose cone on a Peli
Isn't there also going to be a bike standing next to it?
Not that I'm familiar with aerodynamics, but surely fucking around with your peli isn't going to make much difference?
However, if we're still taking about the narrow one, what about rivnuts and mounting a light motorcycle nose cone fairing on it. You could get it sprayed to colour match the car.

probably also put a scarecrow on the bike

Did you fit to your superbe? Is it worth it without any other mods.
-
• #78287
And what is the difference between fitting a box like that and getting a firm to do a remap?
-
• #78288
£1500?
-
• #78289
The remap looks to be around £250 the box is £400 ish (some sales make it quite a bit less). I guess the question is around doing it in hardware (the box) Vs software (the remap). The box I suppose you can just remove and it goes back to stock. The remap needs to be undone I assume for the same cost again. But this is just from googling.

Yeah, it’s a bit of a ridiculous thing, but the Peli is very blunt and if I can work out a way of mounting a deflector as linked to earlier I probably will do.
I bought this lot plus the case:
- 599 rack
- Two pairs of rack stops
- Four luggage/load straps
- Two t-track eye bolts
Very open to suggestions on stuff I have missed/would benefit from
- 599 rack

This is the base of the 1740, distance between the centres of the feet at the front and the back of the case is 30.6", and I'm using the Imperial measurement because I found that the centre-centre distance on my roof bars (from a US Porsche forum) is 28".
So I'm hoping that the feet (which are quite deep) will locate the box well on the bars, and then with a ratchet strap passed lengthwise underneath the box from handle to handle it will be held firmly onto said roof bars.

I'm sure you are aware but your insurance company will need advised. I heard a horror story that a guy bought a mapped car, crashed it and the insurance assessor checked the car and found it had been remapped. The driver was unaware as it had been done by a previous owner. Claim refused - £22,000 down the drain.
-
• #78293
Yeah, mine is not worth £22k. But even still, after talking it out, I'm not going to bother with a stage 1 for now as there's no way I'm using all 220hp anyway. I'm going to go for a simple pedal box as the Skoda forums are full of people who swear by them. Reasonable outlay and simpler install.

mine is not worth £22k
It's also about what 3rd party damage is. Given insurance propensity to share liability, even if someone crashes into you, you could be liable for all costs.
There was a story on pistonheads where someone's dad didn't realise his cover for driving other cars was removed from his renewal. Someone crashed into him and he wound up with a life changing bill.

The box is like a piggyback ECU, it can adjust the information the ECU is receiving from different sensors to change the way the engine performs.
I think they can be both safer and extract more performance compared to a remap.
I bought my JB4 used so it was the same price as a remap.
It's definitely worth it with no other mods, I didn't dyno mine but everyone who did saw an increase from 280 stock to between 350 and 360.
The Skodas are running a lower performing map than the equivalent VW/Audi, so mine was 280 stock but the Golf R is 315, so that's why the performance gains seem ridiculous. The same box on a Golf R would take it to the same, 350-360, which is the expected level of performance increase.
You don't need it and 220 is a decent amount already, but it's really fun to have that extra.

The pedal box has stalled out of the gate anyway as the robot on the phone at my insurers say their underwriters decline ANY performance related mods. I have asked them to review as under that definition, I can't fit better tyres.
-
• #78297
Just for reference, and I have no idea on specific circumstances but one of my day care dad buddies just toasted his vrs engine with a DTUK map... Leaned out detonation. Might have been bad fuel but there's always a risk.
Having said that I've been running an ATM remap on my 2.0tfsi Audi with no issues for 50,000 kays.
-
• #78298
Good to get both sides, cheers. I have moved on from remap/tune now. If the insurers stop being dicks I will try the pedal box.
-
• #78299
The pedal box is a drive by wire throttle position sensor change isn't it? So you need to press the throttle less to get more of a response? Or does it do something more intelligent than that?
-
• #78300
That's about it. Removes the lag.
Pedal travel to throttle response for the different modes.
I'll definitely get Ian the mechanic to service the brakes, you all seem to be saying the same thing wrt their shit performance which is heartening. Two week wait to get the car in tho'! ⏳
