I'm taking this to mean there was 60% of the disc left from a new disc till the minimum wear limit.
The theory is yes, the reality is who knows with out looking at the discs. Have used a on car disc lathe before to fix scored or slightly warped discs on a 928, as the disc were so expensive to replace this was a viable option. But that cost can be more than replacing the discs on other cars.
Odd, as a cheap skate I'd have cleaned the discs with a wire brush attachment on a drill or angle grinder, then chamfered the leading edge of the pads. Then bed the pads in again.
