i agree with you comments. I guess the issue is that no party is going to promote
"let's get rid of national insurance... and raise the basic rate of tax to 25% and the higher rate to 50%"
or whatever the numbers would have to be to make it work.
the obfuscation of true tax rates, and the deliberate over complication of the tax system is a long running source of frustration.
