  • The government, last I checked HMRC werent them!

  • last time I checked, there weren't any elected positions in HMRC.

Edit - Non-ministerial department which reports to Parliament, not the govt.

  • Some serious shithousery from Ireland coming up...

  • Hoist by our own shitty petard

  • When does the first Tory twat claim that today’s events in Hainault were “due to Khan losing control”?

I’d say “soon” and I’d go with Gullis picking up the baton left to him by Lee Anderson.

  • Gullis picking up the baton left to him by Lee Anderson.

Those fucking numbnuts. The absolute pits.

  • The Reform UK mayoral candidate already did whilst it was still going on yesterday so surprised it’s not happened yet.

  • Would it surprise you that the answer seem to be Kemi Badenoch?

  • Sadly not a surprise at all

  • Rishi doesn't answer a question

but he does do a load of dog whistling about ULEZ and taxes.

  • I can’t get past ‘will he shut down the facebooks’

  • This was a very serious question about a senior UK politician getting
death threats through groups set up and promoted by Tory staffers. The
PM didn't even bother to give it a proper response. He pledged to
stand up to extremists - but apparently not if they're in his own
    party.

  • KK pinpoints the moment it all went wrong for Truss:

it was obvious to me that once I’d been sacked, it was over for her

  • Don't forget to vote!

Personally I think the Tories are getting my vote. I want this "War on Motorists" ended. It's getting ridiculous how difficult it is for drivers these days.

  • It would seem that the Tories intent to abolish National Insurance will give a £46 Billion revenue loss to the treasury. Since raising taxes or cutting the old age pension have been categorically ruled out that leaves one option - restricting eligibility. In effect the Tories are planning to raise the retirement age. I've no idea what the new planned age will be 70-75?
I bet our dysfunctional billionaire owned media will not raise this as a legitimate concern for folks close to retiring and who need time to assess/plan for the future.

  • National Insurance is a disgrace. It should be rolled into income tax.

  • I've no idea what the new planned age will be 70-75?

David Frost has been flying a kite for 75 already in the last few days. Sunak's been refusing to rule it out.

  • National Insurance is a disgrace

not saying i disagree but interested in your rationale.

  • It's a disgrace how the government (and others) sells into the pernicious myth that it as a payment into a pension pot (and more recently supposedly ringfencing specific portions of it for the NHS), which it isn't, rather than just a slightly different type of general taxation, which it is.

(I bit, sorry - just had a similar argument with my folks last night)

  • Wasn't my comment but I agreed with it:

    • hides true rate of tax
    • applies only to working people not passive income
    • weirdly un-progressive rates that drop off after a certain point
    • pretends to be a hypothecated source of cash but isn't

  • not saying i disagree but interested in your rationale.

    That wasn't something I said.

  • sorry - managed to reply to the wrong message. it was @frankenbike

  • happy start of the downfall of the tory party day everyone.

could we have a quick summary of the websites you can check to see which party to vote for to oust tories in your local govt area.

    thanks
