Chandlers in Kew closed in, blimey, 2016 or so. That was Doug, now retired, who went off to be Collings distributor Guitar XS; after him the shop was run by his ex-wife. Brother Charlie, ex-Kew, still has his own Guitar Experience place in Hampton, and he took over the Plek machine. Nice shop, very small, bit expensive but everything is around there.
I've always been a bit dunno about Plekking... maybe it's more angled towards being part of a production process than being best suited for one-off jobs. That was Brinsley Schwarz's feeling and he used to work there...

If anyone is interested in a valvepower 18w ‘Lite IIB’ amp before I list elsewhere then let me know. It has variable voltage so you can get some nice drive at low vol. it’s in a basic combo cab with an old Celestion 12’ speaker, all JJ valves. I’m in S London/Surrey and I reckon 250? It would make a great head,4 8 & 16 ohm outputs, pm for any pics/further details. Cheers

I don’t always Insta my amps, but when I do… https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5wKw80N9jh/?igsh=N3hqb3R1dm1ibmdj

Yowser. I paid £250 for it from Andy Hackett at Angel in Denmark St in around 2005 I guess? I put Watford Valves Harma valves and a Weber speaker. The Sig8 Alnico I think. It's just a lovely thing. A fair bit cleaner than it might otherwise be because (as far as I remember) I have a 12AY7 in the pre-amp instead of a 12AX7, reason being that I was after as much clean headroom as possible because I used to run it alongside a bigger amp and didn't ant the gain levels too mis-matched. Might switch back and see how much dirtier it can get.

How do you get away with playing that loud in a terrace house? I have a Champ from a similar vintage and I never dare get past 1, which means it sounds really meh. I just bought a solid state Fender Sidekick so I can play even quieter.

Nope! Just had a look, and it's a very new looking JJ ECC83 in the pre and the power tube - i think - is a General Electric? Hard to see because the printing has worn off. I can make out Made in USA - STR then a two digit number ending in 9. Then on the back it says
312
231
AJT
I have no idea! Sounds good though! -

I can't is the answer to that. I knew the neighbours were out and I only did it for literally one minute. Hence the one-take clip with the clangers!
-
• #14611
I've been in this house for a year and one side has been empty the whole time. If the other one was too I could crank it. I'd be happy if I could play well enough to match your "clangers". Nice amp, nice playing.

Thanks man. To be honest the reason I cranked it was because it sounds so meh at tickover. I usually have a pedalboard plugged into it with some drive and reverb at least, but because I was messing about with the EHX Mel9 pedal - i had the guitar going straight in. I was noodling about thinking, man this sounds lame.... I wonder if I can get away with turning this thing up?! hehe!

It's frustrating when you read online that Champs are perfect for home practice because they're so small... Mine would piss off neighbours two or three doors down if I turned it right up.

Time for an attenuator! I would love a normal Champ, they're so spendy now, is crazy.

Hello! Dunno if you were there last night, but please say hi if you come through. I'll tell Sam our paths have crossed on here and see if he can work out who you might be from your username.....

It's all about scale though innit. 5 cranked watts of 6v6 through an efficient 8" speaker is pretty flipping loud in the average victortain terraced living room, but almost totally inaudible in a club next to your average drummer.
I do love mine as a living room friendly clean amp with a coupld of pedals. I know some folks are cable into amp purists and (as you say) cite a champ as all you need for great tone... that's only true if you can turn it up of course.

Love the mystery shopper aspect here. Hope you all enjoyed the gig!

Just ponied up for a Music City Bridge Stud Finder and matching locking studs. Here's hoping it's better than the crappy Mojaxe bridge I've got sitting in a draw.
I need to get back into playing this thing, hasn't felt the same since the tragedy of that knobhead snapping the neck.

I'd forgotten about that story - that was nightmare stuff. A couple of years ago wasn't it - I can't remember all the details of it but for what it's worth it's looking great in that picture.
crappy Mojaxe bridge
The compensated one? I was thinking of putting one on a Les Paul I'm building - you not keen?

It's tainted!! Kinda fell out of love with it after all that shit. Need to change that.
Yeah, the compensated one. It didn't work out on this guitar, it just wouldn't intonate. It looks great tho'! 🤷🏼♂️ Apparently, the Music City Bridge is a doddle to install and intonate, even for an idiot like me. You get both the E strings in tune and that's it, the rest happens automatically. They have a few different versions, check them out.

It's tainted!!
Maybe a little time apart is what it needed to get back into it - make the incident part of its history and back story!

By shifting it forwards / back against the posts? I've picked up the Faber wraparound bridge for now. It's got those little brass bars, which presumably are way better for intonation, but which spoil the illusion a bit. I'll check out the music city one, thanks

Robben Ford is at the Electric Theatre in Guildford on 29th May. It’s billed as a master class but can’t find anything else about it.

I'm putting an Old Blood Noise headphone amp pedal on eBay soon, unless anyone is after one on here?
-
• #14624
It’s an incredible guitar man. Don’t taint it by associating it twat that snapped it. All the best gibsons have neck repairs anyway. It’s got a bit of Glaser on it now. That counts for a lot.

If anyone is interested in this MIJ offset tele let me know. I bought it 50% off after someone posted a link here around Xmas time, and immediately stopped playing guitar for a while so it’s just sat here. I’ve already got more guitars than I can play so I should move it on. As new, got the box still, plastic still on the pg etc. List price was around £1200, happy to take £550 from an LFGSS’er

I'm not sure but I don't think it's the same as the famous one that closed (think that was in Kew), but has some shared family link. Their website has loads of famous names (Hendrix etc) so it must be linked somehow
