  • I fucking despise Rachel Riley.

  • Her and oberman for the persecution of some one re tweeting someone else's article about them with no comment.
Riley comments on the ex labour leader shows what kind of hateful person she is. I wish she could be transported to Gaza and suffer from the regime that she supports.

  • I am really struggling with that 1st sentence

  • It's quite dangerous that you have an 'intelligent' celebrity like Riley, who's been awarded and MBE and contributes to an NGO combating digital hate and misinformation, spitting her own digital hate and misinformation on Twitter.

She's had her slap on the wrist, given a half-baked apology along with a woeful excuse - so life will probably go on. If someone said something that mildly seemed anti-Semetic [as a Semetic-language speaker, I despise this hijacked term], I'm sure things would be very different.

Not sure what she and Oberman retweeted, but yes, there are so many B-grade celebs retweeting the most vile of Arab/Palestinian-hate going unchecked, largely because it's currently in vogue in politics to excuse our white, European, colonialist allies for genocide.

  • The pair did not retweet anything. Here is the initial news story - https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/feb/21/rachel-riley-and-tracy-ann-oberman-to-take-legal-action-after-twitter-abuse-antisemitism.
This is about the claims of Labour being anti Semitic, not the niether are members of the labour party.

Note that they used the same lawyer that Jack monroe used it what was one the easiest defamation case, that bankrupted financially the morally bankrupt Katie. Lawyer also a vocal anti corbinite. Note the lawyer was even fined for lack of integrity for replies to his opponents. More in the article.

Riley wore the t shirt on twitter claiming the Corbyn was a racist..https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/photographer-hits-out-at-rachel-riley-for-wearing-tshirt-using-an-illegally-manipulated-version-of-his-jeremy-corbyn-picture-a4297041.html

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/jul/29/rachel-riley-and-tracy-ann-oberman-drop-libel-claim-over-retweet was the case, they original article of the deleted retweet seems to be around and available still. Note that there was insurance paying for this defamation and that may have been force to stop the prosecution.

  • Thanks for clearing that up, couldn't understand your first sentence either so misunderstood what you meant. The irony eh? Yep seen her wear that shirt.

  • Makes sense in my phone and head...so that is the greater issue.

The whole retweet situation is strange, IMO. Mind you shows how equal our legal system is.

Edit: while moaning to Morrisons about cheese and onion rolls saw a video of Riley claiming a baby was removed from a woman's dtomache and beheaded! Suspect AI stuff as some one who say things like that really needs help

  • Aye me too, hateful POS.

28 fired, some arrested. Seems many of the people fired weren’t part of the sit-in protests.

  • ICC ... hmm... this could get interesting.

  • The west are all for a rules based international order until the rules are applied to them.

Shame on Germany (and the US and UK) for not backing the court.

  • Do you expect any tangible action though? Norway have stated they'll comply, I'm sure others will follow suit.

@Lebowski 100%. Another thing, a list of all the people indicted by the ICC until now, they're all pretty much Africans (including Arab). Of course, with Russia's invasion of (Europe's ally) Ukraine, many new names have been added, but not sure the good old Russian bogeyman counts as 'diversity' as far as the list goes.

  • Anyone who is a signatory and doesn't comply will be tanking international law so while most will keep quiet and hope none of them choose to travel they would comply if push came to shove.

    IANAL

The bigger deal is likely the acknowledgement of Palestine by more countries.

  • Well Ireland and Spain have also acknowledged Palestine today. I'm sure more will follow. I did read a few weeks back of some Caribbean and South American countries taking similar steps, or are working towards such recognition, Jamaica among them.

In response, there is a video now circulating of the hideous mofo of a scum-bucket that is Ben Gvir, standard outside of Dome of the Rock (of all places), basically saying that because of the recognition by said states, they're rewarding Hamas and is therefore why the IDF needs to continue and destroy Gaza.

Putting it through my candid BS translator, "because you've recognised the Palestinian state, we'll continue doing what we're best at - killing innocent women and children and committing war crimes - so that there is no state for you to recognise."

  • Shame on Germany (and the US and UK) for not backing the court.

Australian opposition are "not ruling out" withdrawing from the ICC over this. One of the many problems of the Israel-Palestine conflict is the fuckwits using it as an element of culture war.

  • The former head of the Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, allegedly threatened a chief prosecutor of the international criminal court in a series of secret meetings in which he tried to pressure her into abandoning a war crimes investigation, the Guardian can reveal.

According to accounts shared with ICC officials, he is alleged to have told her: “You should help us and let us take care of you. You don’t want to be getting into things that could compromise your security or that of your family.”

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/may/28/israeli-spy-chief-icc-prosecutor-war-crimes-inquiry?

  • I mean when I said everyone indicted by the ICC is African or more recently Russian, I didn't expect a senator to confirm that is it's purpose.

    Israel kills another Iranian general.

I’ve no love or sympathy for sponsors of terrorism, but at what point does it stop when a country uses its airforce to bomb and kill another country’s officials in a 3rd country?

  • I’ve no love or sympathy for sponsors of terrorism

I think that rules out pretty much every power then no? Especially the US, UK, Israel etc.

  • In your video link, the ICC prosecutor actually states that is not the purpose, declaring "We don't see it like that, this court is the legacy of Nuremburg...This court should be the triumph of law over power and brute force..."

  • Sorry, it was more a tongue-in-cheek comment, which was probably lost in expression. I know it's not, but that's how some senators see it, apparently.

  • Even Biden is now saying it’s apparent that Netanyahu is using the war to stay in power. Gantz’ resignation puts Bibi further in the bind that he was already in: having to maintain approval of the far right factions to maintain his government, without totally losing US support or being seen to provoke a regional war that will get more Israelis killed.

  • 'As Hitler said,' Moshe Feiglin said to Channel 12 news, 'I can't live if one Jew is left,' we can't live here if one 'Islamo-Nazi' remains in Gaza'

    https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2024-06-16/ty-article/former-israeli-mk-quotes-hitler-while-discussing-gaza-war/00000190-224f-d231-a1b2-e65f76fe0000

  • it is not implausible to estimate that up to 186 000 or even more deaths could be attributable to the current conflict in Gaza. Using the 2022 Gaza Strip population estimate of 2 375 259, this would translate to 7·9% of the total population in the Gaza Strip
