  • When I wired up my cross check I used the cable guides for the older wired D12 stuff.

    (apols for Amazon link)

Worked really well and if you isopropyl the frame before sticking it down it will never come loose. All credit to @spotter for that old tip.

    Some pics for reference.

  • Glad to see someone one remembered that trick!

On a side note I hope you have got the extra safety hardware for that rack following it's recall. It's the one that caused me to have an pretty horrendous accident and spend time in hospital.

  • I think it could look neater, but might take a little longer to set up, as apposed to the @spotter technique of the Di2 cable guides. Especially as I have a black cross check I just ordered a pack. Definitely an upgrade on my current taping job.

  • I'm finally building a dynamo setup cobbled together with Supernova F+R lights and a Son 28 dynamo I got years before.
Is there anything like a kLite bar switch that's brand agnostic, or any electrical reason why I can't use it with Supernova lights and an Igaro USB converter? As their webpages say it's kLite Light specific..

  • The connectors used by kLite are not used by others. When you modify these connectors or the rest of your cabling you should be good to go.

  • Old photos. But thank you. Years ago I sold the rack to Eejit and then later posted him the upgraded hardware once it had been released.

Side note: That frame was the one that Hulsroy repaired and modified for his dad.

  • Ah right - so as long as I strip and resolder the terminals to the correct supernova/Igaro connectors, I should be fine with the wiring otherwise?

Followup question - if I have the 'Always on' form of the bar switch and toggle my lights off, will I lose cycling watts if the USB converter is charging nothing?

  • Thanks in advance, novice here.

I have a supernova rear light on the rack. I want to take the rack off for summer, what am I best to do to remove the rack? Snip it? Real novice here the shop did it all for me.

  • Do you want to keep the (a) dynamo rear light on the bike? If so you'll need to take the light off the rack and find another way of mounting it to the bike when the rack is removed. Remembering to coil up enough wire to reattach it to the rack when you want to put the rack back on again.

Also most dynamo lights should never need a cable snipping to remove them - it's usually a spade connector or possibly a ring connector which can be undone and reused.

To be honest it'll be a load of annoying faff which might go wrong, cost money if a new mount is needed, and then have to be reversed in a few months anyway. I'd strongly recommend leaving it as is!

  • You could use dyna snaps for quick release (I have some next to my front wheel for easy puncture repair) but you'd still have the problem of where to mount the light when you are rackless. I'd keep the rack on for an easy life.

  • @Dibble used in this chat the dia compe frame clamp.

    His picture:

  • Did a touch more digging - so if in principle I think I'd be snipping the lights connectors off the XT30 kLite switch bundle, then just rewiring the loose ends to the Supernova lights or a spade connector?

Not sure if you have any experience of the kit as the one remaining doubt I have, is if the wires are different gauges/resistances or standard?

  • Looking for a rear light to replace the dead SON one if anyone has one knocking about, thanks

  • The wires will have different gauges as the kLite cabling is much thicker. At least on the set I have, but note that I have an older set with xt60 connectors.

You can also create a short converter cable using a xt30 connector and the one you need for your light. This way you do not have to cut any existing cables.

  • Interesting thanks - I'll investigate what converter cables I might be able to use

  • I picked up a Luxos U a while back and it’s sat in a draw, mainly due to its size and ugly shape. Bored the other day I wired it up, it’s quite a laugh with the handlebar mounted button, haven’t tested the charge capability as it’ll likely suck, but cool feature to have.

Side note: anyone have an Edelux II in silver they’d swap for a black?

  • Thanks for the advice. Managed to have it set up with supernova plug set and I can switch out as I need.

  • Anyone used the B&M IQ-X and have a review?

  • Yeah I've got one. Had it for 3 or 4 years now.
I don't have a huge amount to say about it, it's been faultless. Can be mounted top or bottom due to the ring around the body. Light output is pretty bright, in well lit streets you don't see a huge spread of light on the road surface but it is plenty bright enough to see by on dimly lit or completely unlit roads. The beam has a decent spread if slightly narrow with a nice clean cut off horizontally.
Apparently it auto dims in daylight and lights up a little extra be-seen light in the brow of the light and then auto switches to full brightness at night. I've never noticed this happening but that's what it says it does.

  • The one downside I can think of with it is the on off switch is a button and it doesn't work unless there's power to the light. So it can be switched off and spinning the wheel by hand isn't enough to generate enough power to switch it on so you either think it's broken or you have to ride up the road with the light off for a few seconds.
If you never switch it off, like I mostly don't, it's not a big issue.

  • I had one for years, was great. Standlight started to fail in cold weather, common with older capacitors, apparently.

Managed to source a replacement cap and replaced it. Unfortunately I damaged one of the side-view LEDs in the process, plus the rubber gaskets had perished with age so putting it back together it wasn’t quite as tight a seal. Bought a new one a few months later. Still a great light.

  • I'm curious -how did you manage to open it?

  • Interesting thanks. I didn't know much about it. Can you comment more on what the light splay is like to the sides?

That on off issue sounds annoying @PhilDAS

  • I've run one for years - easily one of the brightest lights I've had.

Are you interested in beam pattern or side visibility? I find the beam pattern to be pretty focused. There is a nice clear cone of light rather than more flashlight-y front lights. Although I benefit from general urban lighting so there is some caveats to this.

Yes, the wheel has to be spinning to turn it on and off, but I just leave it on from Sept until April really. Different use case.

They are also pretty durable, mine has taken a few bashes from the bike falling over and still works fine.

Mounting height / position for reference

  • My iq X is great, think it's the first version with „only" 80lux?
As said above, beam is not that wide, descending narrow bendy stuff in darkness (when I did such things) I would have appreciated a bit more light on the sides. But those were rare occasions and a good head torch would have made more sense.
