Rubino pro tubeless 30 mm for summer road miles . Any good or too puncture prone like the pro ones .
-
• #10254
I’ve got Rubino Pro’s on my winter bike, like a fricken tractor tyre.

Worse than p zeros then and they are slugs

Gravelkings are garbage. They’re cheap for a reason. Don’t try and set them up tubeless.

They’re cheap for a reason
What would an expensive tyre be? The new gravelking + are £60+ each
-
• #10258
Well, top end tyres like GP5k RRP are now £99.99(!), so unfortunately £60 Gravelkings are mid range at best. Everything has gone up, doesn’t mean they aren’t expensive but it’s all relative in the new normal.

Fair enough. To me, cheap garbage tyres would be something like Vittoria zaffiro non folding at £15 RRP. Although I had a pair many years ago and think they were ok

For xc/bikepacking should I be looking any further than Mezcals? 29 x 2.2-2.3, folding, tubeless, black wall.
I've had Fast & Light 2.25 WTB Rangers in the past that I liked but Mezcals seem to get better reviews. -

I stuck one on the Stanton after puncturing one of the heavily used Ardent Race. It worked in Gran Vertical but I don't really notice shit about tyres - they either work or they don't and I don't believe most people that can "feel" yada yada, I believe lab testing. Lots of people use them so that could be a good argument for their quality but lots of people eat McDonalds and thus prove that most humans are idiots.

Which ones? There's a tonne of P Zero models and most are within a couple of watts of stuff like GP5000s

What's the forum-favourite 28mm or 30mm 700c easy rolling, kinda lightweight tyre these days? Something to go on the light tourer instead of the hefty Marathons its wearing currently. TIA.

Haven't we just dissed rubino for being slugs.
-
• #10268
I ran Durano on my fucking TT bike, because I got sick of wearing out Rubinos so fast.
But I'm sure that 5W extra rolling resistance is going to stop y'all getting those KOMs :P
Have you seen the state of the roads out there? "Light" is not a property I want in my tyres unless I'm racing a fucking TT.

• #10269
To be honest, there are more obvious places to start than tyres if you are looking to save weight.
-
• #10270
Embrace "heavyweight". Everyone knows bigger is better.

Fake news, my Gravelkings are great. Roll nicely and did a lot of commuting on them and still no punctures
-
• #10272
I knew there must be at least one other person in the world that likes Gravelkings.

Trolls, the pair of you

I legit like them. 99% road but barely any punctures, grippy, fast and squishy.
Having said that, I don't have them on either bike at the moment. The Terravail Ramparts I'm using at the moment tick the same boxes but just do all of the above marginally better. -

Ended up keeping the gravelking ss+ on for morning ride as was such a pain to fit.
Anyhoo, seem a bit nippier and no less comfy than the Sawtooths. Will prob keep them on until summer tour.
20 inch tyres what’s good for commuting with low rolling resistance and good puncture protection?
