  • This looks amazing and fascinating - not sure where us Brexit Islanders will be able to watch it in full though...

    https://youtu.be/eqBeMXwR_uk?si=DqZJT6hD_4mgTxgI

  • This does look good. Hopefully will be able to watch in full sometime. Maybe some DVD's will land in Fopp or similar.

  • Got these La Sportiva Akasha 2’s going FREE if anyone wants to try them out.

Solid pair of trail shoes with nice tread design that makes them feel very stable when moving quickly and in technical terrain. Realised I’ve moved up a size or prefer a boxier shape for the toe box.

    Size uk 10 - eur 44 1/2
I would say they run a bit small being an Italian brand.

    I’ve done 256KM in them.

I’m based SE26 - Sydenham and Forest Hill. I work all over but mostly East, so could potentially do a collection up there at some point.

[edit] - I will give them a little clean as well :)

  • Similar sizing story with these ASICS GEL-TRABUCO 9 G-TX Size UK 9

Only worn them for walks/general wear/work a few times. Got them originally as a waterproof location work shoe, not sure how they perform for running.

Lost the original footbed somewhere :/.

    Free to a good home.

    SE26/se23 collection.

  • Hope you're all set for Sunday @jimm and anyone else there, plus those at London next week are enjoying the taper madness.

Last night's gentle run felt great so I'm going to club track tonight for one more 10x800 pace predictor session on fresh legs hoping to hit 2m5o's throughout. Then full gas Parkrun first thing tomorrow to get a benchmark time for my Sale Sizzler series prep that I'll be doing in May & June. Big night out at a local beer festival Sat night, then should be well set for the 26.2 Sunday morning effort. ;)

  • took a week off C25k and did a couple of runs of my own design to try and help get used to the jump in interval lengths and also help ease my knee into it a little slower as it keeps threatening to develop into something without actually doing it.

back on track this week though and i feel like i hit the tipping point where I'm actually running (very slowly) continuously and stopping when dictated rather the the subtly different pushing myself to just hang on until the clock runs out. like i could almost just keep going if i had to. it doesn't feel good and it's definitely not easy but but it feels like i'm finally on the part where it's just "do what you did last time just a bit longer this time" .

that probably sounds like gibberish but it kind of makes sense in my head.

plan for next couple of weeks is mostly 8x8x8mins with a couple long ones thrown in in between so i feel a lot more comfortable with the upcoming workouts as i was able to get it done today.

  • Haha I don’t believe you!

Yeah I’m all set, I’m bouncing off the walls, so much energy. Wish the race had been today or yesterday, I’m so hyped and can’t imagine myself feeling better in a few days time.

Good luck with your goals, the weather looks pretty good.

  • Haha I don’t believe you!

Me neither. I'm doing as little as possible tbh although did a short stint at the allotment today.

Yeah I’m all set, I’m bouncing off the walls, so much energy.

    Feeling the same!

Likewise, and yes of all it could be at this time of year it doesn't look bad.

Just picked up my donate away top for the start wait, it is in club colours and a good fit though so I'd quite like to keep it now though. Was £6 at Sue Ryder.

  • was supposed to do a decent session at lunch 4 x 2km repeats at 5km pace but gave up after 2.5 reps. Felt absolutely cooked even though I had yesterday off. Was warmer and maybe a little dehydrated but q annoying as I was well up for it :'(

  • Hope it goes well for all Manc runners, I am there too. rhb, with your local knowledge, do you know what extent you can shortcut the start process? I am coming in from the Quays past IWM tram stop heading for Warwick Road, which the official map says in the way in to the start process. It then suggests you go down Warwick Road, to Talbot Road, then back up past Tesco and just end up back at Chester Road again... so I was wondering if when I first get to Chester Road can I just turn left to go directly to the start (if I get there at the right time for my wave)? I don't need bag drop - is there any other reason to go to the event village?

You describe the purple route on my edited map here, which does sound convoluted if no bag drop although I'd ask a marshal before doing what you suggest, I guess it could be ok but I've never seen how they barrier off & manage access to the start funnel, so maybe plan on being corralled the official way and owt else is a bonus?

I'm coming from the other direction (my allotment plot is on the event map, highlighted!) I'll follow the yellow highlight and miss bag drop and know of no other reason I should go into OT/event area pre race.

I had thought about heading along backstreets/section of mile 26 to end up approaching front of the race and arriving at the start that way but it is a huge backtrack if not allowed so I figured I had best play by the rules.

Hope you have a good run too, what wave are you in?

  • ^ All that said, written on a mcr mara chat elsewhere by someone who has done it before..

the marshals are for traffic not people, you can go where you want on foot.

  • Just picked up my donate away top for the start wait

I've always gone for a bin liner with 3 holes cut into it 😄

  • Still an option here too!

  • Have a great time tomorrow @sifriday @jimm @rhb !

  • While away at my parents' place earlier in the week I saw they'd started putting out signage for the Chester 100 ultra which goes right past today.

It's going to be horrifically muddy and heavy going for a lot of it.

If anyone can point me in the direction of likely write-ups afterwards, I'd love to read about someone doing something I will definitely never do, in the way I've enjoyed doing on here.

  • My ankle feels amazing. I can walk painfree for the first time since before breaking it.

I still can't run on it for another 3 weeks, but hopefully it'll still feel good then.

All that remains is to build up fitness, speed endurance, lose 20 odd lbs of flubber and get out racing again.

  • Thanks. Hoping it's fun, of any type, ideally type 1 though 😅

  • @rhb thank you very much, what a handy spot for your allotment! Yep, exactly that with the purple route and possible convoluted result arising. That sounds good advice, I will arrive at the Chester Road / Warwick Road junction just after my wave is open and if I can go straight to start then that's a good result, if not I will have time to join the official loop. I think that chat snippet about the marshals makes sense, I am assuming the emphasis on Talbot Road is just to keep the instructions simple and if you can find your own way then why not, but I also heard the GNR has person-height fencing to manage the funnel so who knows! I am in the bronze wave and aiming for 3hr 25 but that might be a bit ambitious.I'd like to beat 03:30 at Chester last year, I am assuming the complete lack of hills will do that for me :-)

    Thanks @Well_is_it !

  • The waves were a shit shoot when I did it 2 years ago. A decent amount of walking to the start too.

  • good to know, thanks, will deff look out for possible shortcuts on the way in.

  • I started a few years ago running 3k every day. I still find it much easier to stay injury free and motivated running a short distance like that very regularly. I'm not sure 5k is the right distance for everyone to aim for.

Once I'd done a couple of years of daily 3k I found it pretty easy to run the occasional 5k or 10k and rarely 21k but for me it's easy to start to get injuries at those distances.

  • Hopefully you will have a blast though, it was a nice course and the crowd was really good at some points. Think they had free pints of beer at the finish. I wanted to go watch, but can't get so will be thinking of anyone on here running! :)

  • they had free pints of beer at the finish.

Erdinger 0%, I worked there giving it out a few times.

will be thinking of anyone on here running!

    Cheers!
