  • Good call actually, hadn't thought of that!

  • I've got some nikwax to reproof a waterproof jacket. Instructions on the bottle and the jacket care label suggest tumble drying on low.

I have a washer/dryer and there isn't a choice of temperature for the dryer. Should I still put it through the dryer?

  • Yes, it'll likely be fine. I've done many jackets on 'cupboard dry' mode.

Hanging over a radiator / on a washing line in the sun work equally as well.

  • Trying to organise a Toll token for France
Tried Bip n Go, Fulli, Emovis

Had to talk to real life person at Emovis and went through Ok

  • Just bought a USB-powered spotlight from IKEA, which I was hoping to use over our kitchen sink. There are no plugs in the area so thought I could use a USB power bank. But the two that I have seem to have a kind of sleep state, where pressing the light to turn it on doesn't wake them up to supply power. They only switch on when I press the button on the power bank itself, or unplug/replug the light.

Any ways to work around this, or any specific kind of power bank to look for without this limitation? Maybe some sort of AA battery enclosure without the kind of energy-saving logic, or a power bank that just has a "permanently on" switch.

    Here's the light -https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/strimsaev-led-spotlight-white-20570570/

Edit: A few discussions online suggest using a "keep alive" circuit such as this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176257111741 - but that appears to be for keeping the power bank active for a lower power device like a micro computer.

With the resistor values chosen on its own, it should not keep most powerbanks alive but combined with a very low power device it should be enough to stop the powerbank from powering off.

  • The hearing was yesterday. The defendant didn’t turn up and the judge viewed in my favour. They will be sending a court order to the defendant to pay the debt within 14 days.

I just looked the defendant’s company up on companies house and there is a First Gazette Notice of compulsory strike off from 2 April.
Could this be an attempt to avoid the court order or just coincidental timing?
They had a strike off notice back in Aug 2023, but it was discontinued the following day.

I appreciate I’ve replied without knowing what type of law you practice but any help would be massively appreciated!

Glad to hear you got a win. Is your claim and the order made by the court against the Defendant as an individual or against the Defendant's company? If it's the former, then the fact their company is about to be struck off is irrelevant, unless your claim should have been brought against the company rather than the individual, in which case all bets are off.

If the claim and the order are against the company then you need to object to the company being struck off, which you can do here - https://www.gov.uk/object-to-a-limited-company-being-struck-off/make-an-objection .

It's proabably just coincidence though, applying Hanlon's Razor.

  • Got a VAX vacuum that won't turn on. Nothing appears stuck in it, fuse swap didn't help.

Anyone want it before I take it apart like an episode of Dexter featuring plastic and dust instead of blood?

  • Where is it located?

  • Space, the final frontier.

    I mean, Ealing, west London.

  • Any suggestions for somewhere cheap to rent a long wheel base van for a few months? I'm helping a mate look in to the viability of some temporary/casual courier work but my go to, Pace in New Cross are going to be prohibitively expensive I think. Enterprise just seem to make numbers up as they go along but even they're cheaper than Pace.

  • SIXT and Hertz also do van rentals but I don't know about for a couple of months. Also Europcar and Practical are apparently still a thing.

We use Enterprise at work and they really don't know their arses from their elbows. They're dreadful. I have no idea if any of the above will be any better.

  • look in to the viability

I have a suspicion that if you look into it, it's not viable. Short term van rental has got so expensive that it's not even worthwhile for full time couriering.

  • Parkhurst (film & tv) have had good rental prices.

  • Ok, so my missus swapped the plug out while I was doing VO2s and the Vax works again now.

A common fault apparently - they break after all the yanking (don't we all).

  • I wish I'd tried this.

Although I think I might have tested the continuity(?) from it anyway.

  • They have shit thin cable. I should've listened to her when she proposed fixing it that way. Then again, she did buy another vacuum in the meantime and THEN decided to try the fix, the muppet.

  • I'm nervous about using our new one to hoover up brick dust and the like because it was relatively expensive.

I was really hoping to keep our little vax for my shed, and to ultimately hook up to one of those cyclone things.

I may just get the really little titan shop vac when I have space.

  • Fine dust is a real killer. Even my Miele died until I gave it a good clean after I hooked it up to a sander. Battery Dyson really doesn't like it.

  • Do it! Proper shop vac of any description will be revelatory. @dbr I ❤️ my fein.

  • My old man has a 30yo Samsung vac still doing shed dust. They don't make 'em like they used to.

  • How much can one deviate from a manufacturer’s OEM fork spec on an affordable titanium frame?

A customer needs a new fork for their tempest Ti gravel bike. PlanetX still sells bikes and frames, but doesn’t seem to stock the fork anymore (“carbon gravel…”; possibly related to last year’s bike accident lawsuit?). The specs for the full build say the fork has a 395mm AtC and a 45mm rake. Lauf have a nice looking fork that’s 408mm AtC and 45mm rake. Is that too risky to install?

  • Defo get a bagged, corded vac for builder type duties. If it’s mainly brick dust etc I’d get a cheap Titan

  • Is that too risky to install?

I wouldn't impose that much of a geometry change on a customer. There are plenty of 395mm forks available.

  • It would be fine but obviously make the bike taller at the front and change the handling slightly but 395mm is the most common fork length, there are many others to choose from other brands.
