When I broke my collarbone I was fixed and riding withing a month, so should be possible for people to be back in time for the tour, although maybe not in their best shape/form. Conversly, when I broke my thumb they wouldn't let me in a bike fir nearly 8;weeks and I couldn't hold the bars or brake properly for a good while of that
I can't remember a crash taking out so many top riders, ever. It's Vine and Cras who have my greatest sympathy, spinal injuries are the worst. I had a fair combination of the others in a single crash 20 odd years ago (6 ribs, collarbone, shoulderblade, collapsed lung), I was 3 days in intensive care, 5 on a ward and riding very slowly within a month. These supermen will get the best possible medical care and recover better than late 30s me on the NHS, who were superb.
All I want to say is that there is room for optimism.
