something off the beaten track
All a bit on the kicky side but
Best of the Best
Remo unarmed and dangerous
Showdown in little Tokyo
are all pretty dumb fun and watchable if you can find them.If you want kicking and shooting then early Seagal is easier to find and worth watching for the running alone. If you want something good after a few days of shite then 48 HRS just in case you haven't already watched it.
impossible to find
Not great pickings on the usual services but i'm pretty sure Gleaming the Cube just landed on Now TV which was my childhood favourite

The original was dreadful as well

I don't think I've seen any of those, thanks!
This was last night's viewing. I quite enjoyed it. Some good performances, great landscapes, quite moving in parts and not too "2013 Michael Cera-y".

I realised that I don't think I've ever seen a Kurosawa film. I should probably change that.

Yes without a doubt.
Seven Samurai & Hidden Fortress are both superb closely followed by Yojimbo,Sanjuro.
Don't think he made a bad film but I've not seen them all. -

This is a good summary

Thanks for that, I'll give that a read. Was he really making films from the 40s up until the 90s? That's wild!
I might have to save these for the rare evenings I have to myself. Black and white Japanese films from the 40s are going to be a hard sell for my partner I reckon! -

Yes amazing career with 30 films over 57yrs, enjoy

Another set of great Samurai films are Seppuku and Samurai Rebellion by Masaki Kobayashi. Really love those, incredible style.

Do a movie double bill. Watch The Bodyguard (Kev not Toshiro) with her. Best case, she wants to watch Yojimbo after, worst case you can do Field of dreams instead

Good calls, gonna throw Twilight Samurai into the mix as well

Another great but less serious one is Samurai Fiction, can be watched for free on Youtube.

I watched 'Anatomie d'une chute' / 'Anatomy of a fall' tonight. (Recently added to Prime)
Excellent, best film I've watched in a long long time.
Two and half hours is long, but went by very quickly. Excellent performances all around.

Try High and Low, currently being remade by Spike Lee. You'll be able to bore people to tears droning on about the genius of Kurosawa when the (likely shite) Lee version is released.

What's up with this guy? Didn't he already make a shit version of Old Boy?
-

Anatomy of a Fall has been on my list for a while. Only heard good things.
Was planning to watch a few nights ago but it was a bit late so went for Past Lives, which was also well worth the watch

It's great!

Finally watched Zone Of Interest. An amazing piece of filmmaking. Though visually it was stunning, the soundscape made the movie. The pops of gunfire, dogs barking and distant screams were gut wrenching.

It's incredible isn't it? I don't want to watch it again. I have to watch it again.

I watched Emily the Criminal yesterday on Netflix. Aubrey Plaza was OK, slightly above average standard thriller fare, shit ending. 6/10

Watched 'One Cut Of The Dead' a Japanese indie zombie film shot in one take. Loved it. Funny in places, impressive and original. I'd recommend going in watching it knowing nothing about it, as my friend and I did, really improved the experience.

Another best of list , which could be of interest

I remember watching Iron Eagle as a kid. The memory of seeing a hand holding one of the planes will stay with me.
I did like Afterlife, it's fun with snappy dialogue but could do without the ending where it goes
a bit Polar Express
