  • Do gangster films count? Have you watched The Long Good Friday and Dog Day Afternoon?

  • They do and yes! Both great. Maybe I'm overdue a rewatch of To Live And Die In LA if I'm going down that route.

  • There's a Nicolas Cage month at my local cinema. Adaptation last night, really funny and surprisingly good performance by Cage portraying the discomfort of the protagonist. Suits him well, maybe better than the action roles.

  • I've been meaning to watch Adaptation for a while. It's on Mubi at the moment so I'll give it a go

  • The Raid?

Also reminded that I liked Nobody with Bob Odenkirk.

  • This from around same time?

Remember getting the VHS of this (and Platoon) from some supermarket promo

  • Hell. Yeah.

  • That sounds incredible.

  • Anyone seen Immaculate yet? It's getting semi-decent reviews and Sydney Sweeney is supposed to be pretty good in it. Might take a punt with fairly low expectations

  • The list is endless.

Just look at any Van damme classic, Arnold, Sly or Kurt russell film from then and you'll find something.

Big trouble in little china is a classic for that kinda daftness.

  • I think I've exhausted most of those, haha. Big Trouble In Little China isn't one of my favourite John Carpenter films to be honest. I've watched it a couple of times but it's never really hit for whatever reason. Maybe Escape From New York/LA would be a good call though.

  • Just watched My Son on netflix. Only saw the bad reviews after watching it and I'm quite surprised. It built tension so well and ended up being one of the most tense thrillers I've seen in quite a while. Then found out that James McAvoy wasn't given a script and improvised the entire film which has left me quite in awe of him, even though I thought he is a fantastic actor already.
Really thoroughly recommend it if you're after something shortish and like sitting on the edge of your seat.
Sure the plot is a bit thin and the other performances aren't award winning but McAvoy makes it worth the watch

  • He has done some great films recently.
Loved pig and Willy's wonderland was brilliant.

  • 12 or 13 year old me dug it way back when. I need to rewatch it myself on the strength of this photo alone.

How about Iron Eagle for some real brain rot.

  • You’ll have seen them but another couple that spring to mind are Conan (haven’t seen in years) and Mad Max 1+2 (seen almost too much but am yearning to rewatch 2 especially)

  • I watched this last night. Not quite Roadhouse level but excellent brain slop, thanks for the recommendation! Am I insane or is Liam Neeson actually not bad in it? Dodgy accent aside.

  • I recently watched Stone Cold from 1991, IMO a masterpiece in it's genre:

  • Loved Robot Dreams, got me right in the feels.

  • Haha, that's exactly the sort of thing I was after! Incredible film. Hugely under appreciated.

  • Caught this today and quite liked it too. I didn’t realise there was another movie - ‘Afterlife’ - since the reboot (not seen), but that was on TV last night and also pretty good - same cast as this new one.

How in the fuck is the OG 40 years old?!

  • I didn't love Afterlife! It was kind of fun but it felt like it was trapped in a weird middle ground between trying to appeal to a new, young audience and endless references to the old one. Is it just made for parents who love the originals and want to get their kids in to it?

Edit: I realise I've spent the last day of so soliciting crappy film recommendations so maybe I'm full of shit.

  • It was direct by Jason ramises. (Meant Rietman) Original directors (son). It is a continuation. (According to the director)

Have you seen the documentary about the Ghostbusters fans? ghost heads about ghostbuster fans?

  • Jason Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the originals so not the same guy but a nice tie in!
    I haven't, is it worth a watch?
To be honest, I like the originals but I'm not a capital F "fan" so I appreciate that the nods to the originals aren't for me.

  • Yeah let me edit that as it is what I meant. Have a bad brain day.

Have watched it once, interesting and very us based.

Blown away by the first film as a child.
