  • I've done the same and my P0 arrived today. I have been after a grinder for touring so I was looking to get a 1xpresso q2 or q air before coming across the Kingrinder P series. I have just unboxed it and after a few seasoning grinds and getting the grind in the ballpark by eye, I've made a quick V60 and it's tasting really sweet and balanced. The grind uniformity looks good: no massive boulders or sludgy fines in the coffee bed. I can't believe this thing is £22.

  • It's a Chinese company and they seem to have fallen foul of the usual approach to copyright over there. There's a bunch of their stuff on AliExpress

  • Turns out that randomly messing about with the Gaggia's OPV last year resulted in a perfect 9bar.

Now I've got the gauge and can measure changes, I'm gonna take it down to 7ish bar as 6 seems the internet afficionados choice and I don't want to seem quite as snobby as them. Any input from others who've done this?

Yes, I found the temperature suffers a bit when you turn the pressure down too much. I think it’s because of the way the OPV bypasses the water back into the tank. You might also find the machine burps quite a lot when you’ve got the steam on because it also uses the OPV as its maximum pressure hold.

  • I use 7 bar on the commercial machine in the shop, we arrived at it by tasting espresso at 9, then 8 and so on.

  • What is the Hoffman/Hedrick/LFGSS approved filter coffee setup?

  • Aeropress for least faff but V60 makes a better cup if you have the time to spend on it IMO.

  • Fallen in love with the aeropress again after getting a hand grinder. The clean up is so easy and the pucks are lovely.

Would like to get a goose neck kettle and a v60 though to try.

  • Personally I find clever dripper the easiest for the best cup, aeropress a close second. And I like a bigger cup (330ml), and the clever does up to 500ml vs the 250ml of an aeropress.

  • I think it's ultimately down to personal preference, I've went through V60, Aeropress, Clever Dripper & Chemex a bunch of times and always come back to the V60.

Kettle-wise, I've had the Hario Buono for years now and I can't really imagine a reason to get anything else.

  • Nextlevel pulsar

  • What's your clever dripper recipe/technique? I got one a few weeks ago and don't really get on with it. I find the V60 gives a much better/stronger flavour.
I've only followed the Hoffman approved technique so far (something like soak paper, add water, add coffee, stir, leave for 2 minutes).

  • I’ve found you have to really try and move quickly so as to use the hottest water possible. And I stir again just before the draw-down.

  • Yeah, I've been doing both of those! It still tastes a bit "thin" though. To be fair, I've only tried it with one coffee so maybe I need to experiment more with different roasts. Is there a particular roast that's more suited?

  • That’s my method and I got much cleaner tasting but also fuller brews than I was able to get with v60. Grind finer?

  • I’m on Square Mile filter, which I would say are “medium-light”.
You could maybe push the parameters to try and aim for it to be too strong then work back from there? E.g updose a few whole grams, or fine the grind more than you would usually, or steep it for 30 seconds longer.

  • I'm already grinding much finer than I would with a V60. I'll try going to the extreme to see what happens and work back from there!

  • Do post back with your findings! I have to admit I only really gave it a week and didn't do too much experimenting with variables so interested to hear how you get on.

  • For the sake of being able to keep my eyes off, I'd get the Clever dripper. Honestly if/when I wake up a zombie on an early weekday morning, sometimes I don't have the minutes needed to babysit a V60

  • I'm a Hario version of the clever dripper enjoyer and honestly, I'm in the world of let it brew for at least 3 mins before draining into a cup but often it's longer and I get pretty good results once I've fiddled with the grind a bit.

  • If it’s very fine and tasting thin, I’d be tempted to up the dose and make it coarser. As there’s a steeping element I don’t think a fine grind is great for it.

  • Appreciate it - hopefully PID helps a bit but I'll monitor it.

@Stevethecoffee this is exactly the sort of reinforcement I need. Taste > parameters. Cheers

  • Gotta say a filter machine would be my go to - press a button and a few mins later a great pot of coffee

Had this as a seasonal espresso from Paradox yesterday. Stuff absolutely slapped
