Yeah as per usual that’s a step (or two) up from mine.

It’s great, I don’t use it that much though, the big thing for me is the down grade in sound from tv as I have Sonos surround.

Hmmm yeah this is my concern - looks neat and seems like a good idea but is a tv just a safer option. It’s the playroom / 2nd sitting room so doesn’t need to be anything crazy

Yeah my solution is a decent enough B&O Bluetooth speaker paired with it and nothing else so when I turn them both on they connect automatically.

Didn’t check if the one you’re looking at has audio out ports - mine doesn’t so bt only.

Just seen it has airplay2, couple of HomePods in a corner of the room each and you’re golden.

I’ve got an xgimi horizon - highly recommended. not ultrashort throw but very portable and the sound is half decent (harmon kardon inbuilt speakers). I move it frequently between rooms depending on what’s going on. sits in my office during the day so I can watch cycling while I work then easy enough to move it to living room at night with minimal faff

hmm that is nice does it work being sat on the floor? Some reviews mention the size of the power brick, is it very big? any other considerations?

How do these work in terms of room lighting?

BiL has a projector and I fucking hate sitting in his dark sitting room with the kids TV on.

no - doesn’t work sat on the floor. would def need a UST if that’s how you intend to use it. I place mine either on my dining table or an old camera tripod (it has a mounting screw on the bottom). and then just tidy it away when done.

it has an external brick which is reasonably sizeable but not an issue I’ve encountered so far. the new xgimi horizon ultra looks even nicer. only other thing to note is it’s not the brightest during day running (see pic). it’s watchable but compromised. crispy when the light is dimmed. and it lacks some apps (e.g. 4player, iPlayer) but you can cast most things to it or add a third party streaming puck

if you’re going to place it off square and use its autokeystone feature, I wouldn’t bother.

We have the Samsung Freestyle

Works as well as the "regular" projector we had before. Downside is the mini-hdmi port that seems very flimsy to say the least. Soundwise it's shit, def needs a bt speaker. Picture quality is ok, not great. No powerbrick, just an usb-c charger thing, which is good.

Main faff is that the UI is utterly shit and every time we need to sort out some random thing - picture size, keystone, connect to bt speaker, etc

My friend had this as his TV for a long time. Looks like Hisense do a similar one that is available from richer sounds.
They only changed as they moved house and it was projecting ontp a wall right by some massive windows so not bright enough in direct sunlight.

I've got the Samsung Freestyle too. It's not much bigger than a water bottle and can be powered by a USB power bank or charger. Has iplayer, prime, plex, and all the rest built-in so rarely need to plug anything in (which is good as I can nver find the right hdmi cable). Needs to be darkish to work but not really dark.

It's a really convenient option if you've got a fair few white walls and want something to quickly set up (my GF uses it whilst doing the ironing for instance) in different places in a couple of minutes. It's not necessarily something for a cinema experience (although it can do a decent quality 100" picture in a dark room).

UI is a bit annoying though. Auto keystone and focus are often a little bit off. It bugs me and I have to piss about with settings (only a minute or two) to fix it, my GF doesn't tend to care. Can never quite remember where things are and it seems to always want to start with some shitty Samsung channel.

RRP for them is outrageous but there are lots of second hand deals. Think I paid £250 or something for mine.

Anyone using a 4K/UHD version of one of these projectors?

mine is 1080p only because I only have one 4K source really (discovery+). don’t pay for disney or netflix 4K, don’t use bluray and only have a series S. picture is decent on horizon up to very large screen sizes imo

Yeah very much like that. Only for a normal sized window so not to the floor. Are they just curtains?
