you claim the value back from your credit card company, because using anything other than a cc at this stage is foolhardy

Check those T&Cs, seeing as we're picking at the bones, chances are most of us aren't getting any credit card protection..

And it’s £100 an item not the whole invoice.
However, if you bought two items that together cost more than £100, but each cost less than £100, Section 75 would not apply and the card company wouldn't usually be liable.
