  • Stroller-running? Really good for putting them to sleep or just a zone out.

  • Have the stroller but 2 year old has become too independent and categorically will not get into it anymore, and new baby needs to be 6 months before they can go in it.

Headroom shouldn’t be a major issue, it’s a fairly decent sized structure but will measure it just in case!

  • 5k for the wahoo one is a hard no! I was looking at Reebok sl8 at €1200 or Reebok jet300 at €1000 - both can do 20kmph (which I won’t do for any extended period of time but have lofty ambitions for speed work and want to future proof myself).

The nordictrack 1750 seems to be the gold standard for home use, but they’re about €2500, though there is a used one nearby for €1000. He says it was bought in 2021 and has been serviced twice. Are treadmills safe enough to buy used or better to go new if you can?

  • Yeah, I wouldn't be without my (double) buggy but it has its limits in terms of when it's either a useful time (one or more little ones needs a nap) or whether someone won't even get in it, like you say!
I feel I get enough opportunity to run outside without resorting to a treadmill. Then again, I do have an indoor rowing machine, which is definitely my preferred indoor exercise equipment if I need to be around, but it doesn't get much use* compared to the time spent outdoors running. (Might review this after this weekend's HM is out of the way...)

*OTOH, a new Concept2 costs under a grand and is bombproof, so keeps its value. Sure we'll keep it though.

  • Several sizes of alphafly and vaporfly for sub 90 quid on sportpursuit

  • Pubalgia/athletic hernia

Anyone got this fixed? My GP (bless him) tried to get me an MRI but was told to fuck off. I went to an osteopath to get something else fixed but discussed this with him.

He said, you won’t get surgery on the NHS and it probably won’t need it, so stop running for at least 3 weeks and find some rehab advice on the internet. The NHS won’t be interested as I am not in jeopardy.

    So I’m asking the internet.
I tried a gentle 5km last week after a couple of weeks off and it still feels like I’d been kicked in the balls

  • Have you had an accurate diagnosis of the root cause? (If you've not had an MRI, I'm guessing maybe not?) I ask because I had acute groin pain which wasn't properly diagnosed all the way through physio investigation, then X-ray and MRI (both of which were through GP referral) until a referral to an orthopedist, who immediately diagnosed femeroacetabular impingement (FAI). I was then referred for keyhole surgery (or give up running for good... er, no!), all through the NHS. 3 month wait for a consultation, another 3 month wait for surgery, then 2/3 months rehab and back to running. Not saying your condition is the same or even related, but could you go back to the GP and get a specialist referral to an orthopedist?

  • I know nothing about treadmills but...

When I can't get out of the house I hop on the turbo and do some Zwift. I think if you're still getting the runs in outside the turbo can keep your aerobic fitness ticking over with very little impact. So if you can do your easy stuff done on the turbo and still get out to run your sessions you can keep your fitness without splashing out on a treadmill.

  • Thanks all for thoughts on treadmills. I measured the ceiling height out of curiosity earlier today and it is actually only 2.2m. Given I am 1.86m tall it's probably going to be too tight to drop a treadmill capable of decent speeds into that space, so I could be sticking to strictly outdoor runs.

I can just do laps of the block with the baby monitor in hand when I am tied for time ;)

Ha. I have a very local loop that I do when I'm on call (and need to be at my laptop within 15 minutes of being paged).

  • The GP has diagnosed it as best he can.
Hospital refused MRI. Funnily enough I was in A&E because I stuck a screwdriver through my hand and asked hopefully if I could get an MRI and if so could I get both injuries done. I was told they only do MRIs for life threatening conditions…

  • On a separate note to my treadmill rabbit hole, 6 weeks since completely ditching the custom orthotics, based on guidance from physio. Successfully gotten to this point with no injuries or aches following 5 months of strict s&c work, fortnightly strength assessments at the physio, and gradually building mileage back up from 0 at strictly zone 2 pace.

Delighted to be back injecting some pace into sessions for the first time today. My shoes feel so light and springy without the chunky, heavy, inflexible orthotics in them!

Plan from here is to build mileage gradually up 10% week on week til I get to marathon training distance again, and then look at an event to enter!

  • first run in over 4 years today, day 1 of couch to 5k. currently dragging 132kg around so really am having to start from scratch again. but running is easiest and quickest route to actually dropping some weight so just embracing the whole chicken and egg paradox and getting on with it.

the dog enjoyed himself though. but need to find a route and/or time where we wont pass other dog walkers every 30 seconds as benny loves to lay on the floor when he sees a dog he wants to play with which is a bit like throwing an anchor down on a moving ship ha.

  • Well done, it does get easier . Day 1 has to be the worst.

  • ^ This, so much. Best of luck with it @HatBeard

  • That's really excellent, stick with it. I did C25K as a return to running and the running legs came back surprisingly quickly.

  • I'm sure its been done before but half tight recommendations with storage please. I want the janji but they are out of medium so something similar would be ideal. Theres some half price lululemon senseknit 10 on ebay for about £65, I'm not sure whether they have a drawstring which may be an issue if gels in pocket.

  • dusted off the old forerunner 935 so i can track my "runs". remembered how shit the charging cable connection was and while googling how to improve it saw these are now a thing.

rather than it just fall out when you look at it, actually requires a little effort to disconnect. worth sharing just in case anyone else suffers from a loose plug

  • I tried one of those for my Garmin and it died after about a fortnight.

I can’t believe that with all the tech they can fit in their watches, Garmin still can’t put a decent charging port on them.

  • I’ve had that charging cable about a year now for my 745 and it’s still working perfectly. The original cable was pants!
