Thanks! They're not much more expensive so might give them a go. How do they fit? I'm either a 28" or 30" waist. Would you say it's better to size up or down?

I'm a 34 in both, but I think there's more variance in the Carhartt sizes i.e. the smaller waists are narrower overall compared to the larger ones. I'd go up.

Got you, thanks!

I used to get Dockers stuff which is similar but slightly nicer than Dickies from what I remember.

Looks decent actually! I managed to find a pair of Carhartt Sids on Depop in my size for £20 so thought I might as well give them a go. I'll give the Dockers a go if those don't work out.

Tweed jacket maker recommendations?
Made in UK, trad fit, hard wearing. -

Unless you want to empty your bank balance, Hoggs of Fife are a good starting point. Much loved by the shooting set who tend to disapprove of anything that doesn't last 20 years.

Hm, only down to 38, need a 36.

Anything made using Harris Tweed is usually decent quality but I ended up selling the one jacket I owned because it made me overheat.

There is a lot of old school attire like that where I really don't understand how it can fit into modern life in the UK. See also proper overcoats and those horrible scratchy fisherman's jumpers.
I can't help but think if you want the tweed look, but retaining some FOM and not turning into a sweaty gammon, you are actually better looking for modern fashion equivalents.

Thanks both.
I live in a place where it can get seriously cold for much of the year, with the shoulder seasons more akin to a UK winter, though not usually as wet.
Not sure what brands you might be referring to with “modern fashion” but anything kind of in that category does not appeal - I wear a high neck heavy sweater for most of the winter. We don’t have a car either so that plays into it as well.
I’ll admit that a tweed jacket appeals to me mostly for looks as it is not as practical as a dense sweater, but here I am, asking about such in the fashion thread. -

Loads of this kinda stuff on eBay, buy lined for added warmth. Just might be snug if wanting to layer with jumpers though…

Might be a weird question, but where the fuck do you start?
I’ve worn the same old shit for years. I’m bored of all my clothes. Everything is bought on sale, second hand or free from friends. Nothing wrong with that. But I’ve got an entirely sporadic and sad wardrobe. I’d like a new jacket to replace my ageing Carhartt Detroit - but it seems like the new ones are a different fit (I much prefer short jackets and the new version is longer IIRC).
Treated myself to some passenger dungarees and realised that before buying them, I haven’t felt excited about a single piece of clothing in years (which is sad because I used to be a lot more interested).
So where to look for inspo?

You pretty much look like a model so anything you wear will probably inspire other less fortunate. That's how fashion works.

I like the workwear/military aesthetic, if you do as well, there’s tons of options out there. Main thing is to experiment. I just tend to look for quality and stick to natural materials, buying from smaller makers when possible.

100% this is what I’m after. But also trying to not dress in all black like I have done forever.
I know muted green/blue/grey isn’t exactly colour explosion but it’s progress.Without sounding stupid, I basically just have to go out shopping and looking don’t I?
Trying to look online seems so endless and tricky. But I’m struggling to even find a start point.
Carhartt WIP Sid. Better quality, but more expensive.
