My current favourite (and most convincing) rational for why Sunak, is that it's just what he thought he was meant to be.
He was headboy. He was voted most likely to be PM at primary school. He's just been told he'd be good at it, and so far has been successful elsewhere, so it's the next logical move.
What does bring me joy, is that he's clearly used to being good at things. And now not only is he shit, even if he was halfway compitent (at politics or government) he's surrounded by so many shit people that it probably wouldn't make a difference.
