  • need a little rear supernova light mount and don't want to pay £20

after an extensive r+d regime, I've settled on something that might look a bit like this

  • not my finest work but neither is it my worst

  • Very neat. Out of interest did the clamp have enough force to achieve that tidy 90 degree bend whilst clamped in the vice?

  • yeah it did - i could only find a bit of 3mm aluminium, so it bends quite easily (too easily?). I think next time I'd probably opt for 4mm, or maybe 2.5-3mm stainless... I literally don't know

  • That donhou is lush. And +1 for self engineering

  • little rub down with some abrasive pad - seems fine, looks like it'll clear what it needs to clear. Fine.

  • Tidy.

  • seems alright

next time I'd probably make the projection about 5 or 6mm shorter, and maybe move the right angle bit up the bracket slightly so that the light sits a little lower? idk

  • Thats spot on! great work

  • Great hack work

  • Rather this than a fairlight mount.

DIY over dipping into the wallet where you can!

  • I can see why these tend to be cnc machined though, now I've had a little attempt - much easier to get it a little more tucked in.

I may make v0.1 but tbh I doubt it

  • primer going on

    which colour will it be?

  • also - is anyone on here based in Devon?

Made a great little group of bike friends (mostly, as it happens, from here) in London, over the years.

Starting to think about getting up on the moors, and out in the lanes a bit more as spring teases it's way in....

  • Nice, is that going to be the final shade or just some inspiration? If you haven't chosen a shade already i'd recommend looking at early VW colours from the 50's, lots of different beiges. Prairie being a favourite of mine but they have others with more cream in them

  • eyy, lovely.

This one's basically getting a rattlecan - I'm not really set up for wet spray - and I don't really think that most consumer rattlecans are good for bike frames; ie they're quite soft. Even with that Spraymax 2k lacquer stuff.

I'm trying that Hard Hat paint this time (before maybe committing to a gun, compressor, 2-part epoxy paint down the line....) which has a pretty limited range of RAL shades to choose from, but is supposed to be a little bit tougher. It's quite cheap, it's only really cost me £30, plus time obviously (which is in abundance here). If it's bad I'll just send to steve.

Have alternated between brown, some yellows (both a big brother big-bro-y though), before settling on a vaguely volvo cream. I have some silver hope hubs and headset, maybe a dropper, some sweepy bars as per the modern trend, so yea - rigid atb thing for going stone bothering on the moors.

850r yellow would be nice though ;)

  • Plz wear ducted respirator suit if messing about with 2K paint… cyanoacrylates are no joke.

  • Ooh I love a bit of hearing aid beige me.

  • oh yeah for sure - despite being partial to the odd rollie i quite like my lungs

  • first couple of v light coats on

impressions are this is quite good paint for a rattle can. Seems quite tough already. maybe I've learned a little patience too.

  • Good colour!
I think I am going for a similar colour on my genesis cda gravgrav.

Stolen Inspired by this Standert colourway. Also the decals are on their way in two orange tones to choose from.
Interested if that spray.bike stuff lives up to its apparent ease of use and good result.

  • that's a nice colourway for sure

spray.bike is really not good paint imo

somehow manages to be both soft and brittle
