  • In the book Slim lives in Redcliffe, it doesn't even get a mention in the TV show!! The author grew up just over the bridge from us. #4020bitches

  • I can only remember them talking about Darra

  • On the TV show there's one bit where Slim mentions fishing off the jetty at Redcliffe, IIRC he lives in Margate in the book.

  • I was a few episodes in before I even realised it was based off a book. I probably should track the book down. There's a few good "home" references in the TV show. My Aussie life definitely involved fewer drug dealers and prosthetics though.

  • When Lori moved here from Wood End in the 90s they had drug dealers in the houses either side and another over the road. Erin, her sister, witnessed a murder in the garden next door and had to go to court at a very tender age to testify. Crazy seaside town shit.

I've heard the regions are riddled with meth now, it's fucking everywhere over here.

  • Just got a text from my GP surgery to book in for a 12m health check.

Guessing I aged up and now fall into the "come and get told your fat, lazy and gonna die soon" category.

  • 12m isn't very far, surely you'll make it?!

  • Enjoy your statins.

  • I am forty five as of last year and have been expecting a similar call up for some time. I wonder if I should just book myself in for a plugs and points appointment, to save me from waiting and wondering.

Anyone got any experience with such proactivity at an advanced age??

  • With any incoming Labour government unlikely to resolve waiting list anytime soon,
booking now might get you a check up in early '26?

  • I’ve had two texts saying to book my 40+ health check, and both times there’s been no available appointments.

  • I'm 47 and never had or been contacted about a 40+ health check?

  • Boom:

Rang the GP, got an appointment at a local health centre for 9am on Saturday.

Broken Britain seems to be working around here.

    Still, fuck the Tories.

  • Fortune favours ....
I completed the 23 Festive 500 with a saddlesore. Some previous saddle sores have resolved themselves. This one continued to swell, resembling a marble deep in my flesh.
No GP appointments available online, (the preferred method for this GP practise).
Rode, essentially side saddle, up to the UTC, Urgent Treatment Centre at Hillingdon Hospital. 2.5 hours later I'm leaving with a 7-day course of Clarythromycin and topical salicylic acid cream.

  • This has overtones of the most famous arse injury on this here forum. I hope yours fares better...

  • Also, did they ask if you were wearing a helmet?

  • Saddle sores! best cure, tried and tested... Smear on Germoline before bed for 2 or 3 nights and sorts itself out pretty sharpish. Amazing stuff
Edited as yours sounds quite extreme, Germoline for bog-standard sore arses

  • Had my40+ and more recently my you are now 50 tests with gp

    They go like this:

Are you fat? No? Are you a drunk? No? What are you doing here?

  • Yep. I'm looking forward to feeling smug when I say that I neither smoke nor drink.

Be good to get a cholesterol check etc

  • Cholesterol

Yeah that’s where I’m fucked for some reason

  • Thank you for your concern.
There were no restrictions on the twice daily antibiotic,
so I took the first pill in front of the attending/prescribing Doctor,
    and,
of course took the whole course.
Swelling started to ease later that day,
and I managed to ride 80 additional miles between the
Thursday and Sunday to meet my childish target.

  • Twas tethered to my rucksack, so was easily observed.
    No questions.

  • My cholesterol is less than 5, but there is a weird ratio of the 2 different types. I have no idea what it means however. Don't drink, don't smoke, don't add salt to food, we swapped butter to benecol a while ago, so not sure what else I can do!

  • Porridge every day for breakfast

  • 't drink, don't smoke, don't add salt to food, we swapped butter to benecol a while ago, so not sure what else I can do!

    Don't drink, check.
    Don't smoke, check.

    Salt in food, uhhhhhh,
    Butter, hells yeah, salted please!

Let's see how I fare tomorrow....
