Distances in Slough are much longer psychologically than outside Slough, like a sort of emotionally painful country mile.

So it’s just me that goes in via the exit then? Takes you straight to the warehouse bit.

Rubbish. You just need to know where the short cuts are.

Haha!

Heathrow Terminal 5: might as well walk from Slough.
Make the most of it while you can walk to T5. You can't walk to T2/3. You can't cycle to them either.

At what tyre size point does a + bike become a fat bike?

35 mm

Haha! At what point does a bike become obese then? :D

I think it’s beyond 3.00, coz normal suspension fork clearance seems to top out there

Ha,
I was implying that the distance you have to walk from arriving at the doors of the terminal to the door of the plane was (almost) as far as walking from Slough, with exaggeration for effect. One possibly could walk to Terminal 5, but the approach ramp to the entrance floor does not have pavement.
There was, (pre-Covid), provision for bike parking at T5, although, it's not clear there is sufficient security to leave a bike there for any extended period

And until recently, Belfast City. Sorry, "George Best Belfast City" (still love the way they tacked his name on - even literally with the add-on neon signage - just in case some more salacious stories come out and they need to rapidly disassociate "Fuck sake, he did wat?!?! Here, Jahnny, git that sign down, now!"). What was once the easiest stroll from security to a seat in departures is now the same gauntlet of perfume and "Daddy can I have that £5 lego set for £30 pleeeease". The black sparkly tiles are also evil. They make it harder to just keep your head down and power through as you get tiny fucking jabby laser reflections in the retina so are forced to almost make eye contact with the 300 estate agents they seem to have employed to hawk some Calvin Klein at you.

You don't need the terminal approach ramp, there are lifts/stairs from the ground floor. You do need to get across this bridge, or it's northern cousin, which is prohibited so it seems no walking to T5
https://maps.app.goo.gl/9mqD9h21TfPHVk3i7Kind of tempted to try now. Might take my Brompton as cover if I need to go past that point.

There are also the automatic rail-guided shuttles from one of the T5North car parks.
I've never used them, so don't know if you have to show, say a car park ticket of some sort to use them. -

If you are going to do that you an get all sorts of buses and trains too. But that's no challenge!
-
• #120767
Yeah, there definitely are, and they are not that hard to find.

It’s a short shuttle ride. Unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re referring to?
Train to Terminal station - lift - short walk to bag drop - short walk to security - then you’re in Departures - then it’s a shuttle to the gates. It’s a delight compared to older airports/terminals.

London Stansted or London Southend?

Hot dog first ;)
All Ikea's, of the many I have been to in multiple countries, had entrance to show room and restaurant. If a weekday you get free fill ups.

I flew to "Toronto Hamilton" in summer. 3 hours outside Toronto and no public transport connections. My Toronto friends had never even heard of it. Makes Stansted seem very central in comparison. On the plus side, it was so small and shit that the front door to the gate was a 1 minute walk.

Sorry I was taking the piss as Stansted, Luton and Southend now have the London tag added tho none are near London.

Powertool batteries: I can get 2x2AH or one 4AH battery.
Setting aside the convenience of two batteries, will I get roughly the same out of both. I'm sure I've seen comments online that as smaller batteries drain they provide less power so something high drain like an angle grinder would be quickly into that reduced power state. Or is that bollocks?
No thanks. I’d have to be in Slough in the first place, and I really don’t want that to happen.
