  • ...Not this week though. I've just volunteered for sub-20 mins pacing at Charlton on Saturday if anyone's interested.

  • Why is everyone wearing head torches these days? I ran along the canal yesterday (Limehouse Basin to De Beauvoir) and went past 6 head torch wearers. There is plenty of light all the way. All it does is blind someone running in the opposite direction. Rant over.

  • Tbh my eyesight is getting worse as I get older so headtorch can fill gaps between lights at times. I use my on/off switch though.

  • Personally, for a few reasons. Most of my runs are pre/post work, so in the shoulder periods around dawn and dusk. It gets me used to wearing it for an ultra later in the year. Helps me to be able to see uneven paving better - the state of public realm in London is appalling. And for visibility (mine has front and rear lights) particularly to cyclists who share the same path.

  • My only xc race of the season today, as it is <1 mile from home.

    It went as well as i could've hoped having been in bed poorly last Sat/Sun and not run until yesterday's commute run.

    The rest probably set me up nicely for it, I had no plans to run hard but after the opening short lap I forgot myself and built up to full gas by the end. Not hit 196bpm for a few years and hope I don't again for a while at least.

    We raced over an 8km course not 9.6km, same as the women. The sky did not fall. #runequal.

    Daughter came out and hung out with a Marshal I know as cheer crew, she now wants to go to Jr Parkrun in the morning. Result.

  • Tip for including your little ones on the (hill)run - scissor and latex tube needed.

  • Sub 18 5k within sight again as I ran 18.12 in a full gas parkrun tt yesterday.

    18 miles today with 2 x 3 @ aspirational marathon pace, quickly hit HR's that suggest it would be grim insanity to go for that.

    Will plan not to from here on then likely have a fuckit moment on the start line and grovel my way around the second half no doubt. 🤣

  • Also celebrating that this is the halfway point in my training block. It only gets easier from here iirc.

    Oh and I did the shoe golf club thing of dropping far too many £££ on some supposedly faster shoes, Asics Metaspeed Edge. Not worn in anger yet as they're far too nice for these wet & grimy end of winter roads & pavements.

  • Bit late sorry - I also had a mid-life crisis moment (on new year's eve lol) and got the top of my ear pierced. Haven't noticed anything unusual about running, except that I've nearly caught it when wrestling myself out of sweaty clothes afterwards.

    3 weeks in here it was sore during runs early on but now I don't really notice it already....

    ... so much so that I rubbed my arm across my brow the other night and that hurt the next day.

    The other thing on early runs was anxiety it'd rattle loose & drop out mid-run but so far so good.

  • not a huge deal but feels good to me -

    did a 15km run yesterday, only my second time going that far. Just took it steady and did it in around 1.30hr, focussed on keeping my HR under 150. Felt fine at the end and don't feel sore or anything today, no injuries or anything! Nice to feel some progress.

  • Ha - I hadn't thought about it rattling loose and falling out. Now I will think about that a lot.

  • Coming back from the stress fracture I picked up just before Abingdon. Had 8 weeks off and started back up at the end of December.
    Been taking it very casual and no pressure to hit specific mileage etc.
    Went out for 21.1k on Sunday night at a not hard effort and did it in 1:33, which gives me hope that the conditioning is still there to eek-out a sub 3 this year.

  • Did Seville (and my first) marathon on Sunday in 4 hours 2 minutes chip time. Not the smoothest - didn't warm up properly (banked on some waiting time in the paddock) and my knock off camelpack tube mouth piece came off at 39k, and I swallowed it. Weighed up finishing with it in my gullet but opted to induce it back up on the spot. However, thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend that one to anyone. Great city too - was there for the best part of a week

  • Sounds amazing, well done! I’m very tempted by Seville next year.
