Personal taste aside are you sure that a kitchen with no sink is compatible with building regs?

I've got a headache from reading about underfloor heating all day so I've not googled it but I'd be quite surprised if it's permitted.

Good question, it might also cause mortgage-ability issues if on the criteria for ‘habitable’.

I’m not opposed to it 100%, just don’t want to lose loads of worktop space or have one of those shitty little sinks that splash everywhere.

Friends had a kitchen with no sink. They didn’t think anything of it as they had done the refurbishment themselves. Converted the old dining room into the kitchen and old kitchen to utility and sink room. It drove me crazy whenever I stayed over. The only issue they found was when they came to sell. Everyone that came through the door made a comment about no sink I don’t know if the sink had anything to do with it, but it took ages to sell.

you could spec a sink with a chopping board cover?

Yeah, this occurred to me shortly after posting above! As long as it’s something that isn’t too gadgety/proprietry.

How is no sink in a kitchen even an option?

Just get a small one, we are perfectly happy with 40x40.

My parents had one of these. Was just basically a wooden chopping board custom made to have a lip that sat snugly over the sink. Shouldn't cost a great deal. Although personally it bugged me as I had to move it when I wanted to use the sink.

thanks. we’re looking to get a similar plain shelf installed in our kitchen. 3m long and c.24mm deep. I think this means the joiner would need two 12mm sheets of ply. I know these are fairly expensive now plus it’s probably a couple of hours work so was thinking it would cost about 400£ but not sure if that’s quite a lot for such a simple job or if it’s the right ballpark. might price up maple / unpainted MDF too.

12mm birch ply 300x150cm is 162€ in Berlin.
So including cutting gluing and transport I would say your 400 might be reasonable.

But your picture has fixtures hidden in the wall construction, so that's the interesting part.
If it was me, with tracksaw and clamps available, I'd get the sheet delivered (another 30€) and go for it using nice brackets.

As its two pieces, I wondered if they've got some flat floating shelf brackets, then chased out the profile of the bracket in the bottom piece of ply and glued the lot together.

The one you circled looks like there's a thin layer in the middle, would be a possibility too that they made the slots in that leaving more sheet intact.
Definitely something clever going on.

I think that line is the fact it's two outer facing layers glued together with the grain running in the same direction so it appears to be a thicker layer.

Yeah! Cheers for the reco! Tbf we hardly use it as it’s all in the loft which is kinda guests only, but it looks great not being used.

Maybe interestingly I bought the wrong shower mixer - pretty much just a basin mixer so non thermostatic and it’s actually great plus simpler and only a single control.
