First ride of the year, thought it'd be a nice day for a country loop now it's not 0 degrees.
Wrong. Massive ice sheets, flooded roads, ended up on the main roads 😞

Ice sheets gone now fortunately, but damn it is still very cold, especially when expecting (foolishly believing forecasts) a dry ride instead of one through constant, very fine but very soaking drizzle.

And dry steeper lanes in the Eifel.

This was where RWGPS routed me. Doesn't look like a bridge because it's a ferry. But it wasn't running because there was some massive rowing regatta thing on. Anyway, quick reroute over an actual bridge and I was on my way again. Think I might see if they can exclude ferry options by default or something.

Ferry is also closed in winter.

So an even better reason to not route across it. You'd like OSM maps would be updated to infer that it's a temporary route? Maybe it is, I'd need to have a look.
It's marked Hampton Ferry but search doesn't wanna find it. "Sunbury Summer Ferry" is a thing.
I've added an "opening_time:closed" tag to it and asked for review coz I don't know how you're supposed to specify a summer ferry.

I live on the other side of where you took that picture. Sunbury Ferry is more west towards Walton ( sunbury on the north side) and only opened a year or two ago. Hampton ferry has been operating since the 1500's and has less of an online presence. Its open around April to October in a loose sense, costs £2 and is tiny. I've taken a pram across which was a faff.

Yeah, I added some more details to OSM maps and raised a ticket with RWGPS about getting it to not use ferry options.

Nothing worse than a ferry ruining your average speed!

Nothing worse than a ferry inflating your average speed!
is more likely for me

Veteran-Cycle Club - North Road Section
Hub Gear Ride, 11th Feb. '24
An enjoyable and well led ride through lanes to the east of Stevenage.
The photo attached gives some idea, although I have to admit we didn't look quite as neat as this for the whole 27 miles.
P.S. I've just realised that the 'well led' comment might look like self praise, since a sharp eyed observer may notice that I'm at the front in the photo. This was pure chance - the actual run leader is to my left - I just went along for the ride.

Much pretty indeed. Give us a clue where.
I'd be happy with that... if it was you riding through the trappist beer :)
