I was like "that looks like Jenny Graham"... and low gears and beholdonto your bars... "Markus Stitz, Mark Beaumont and Jenny Graham."

They’re my home tracks and lanes, and still some of my favourite spots to ride. Lots of the old railway lines and forestry tracks are brilliant, long gravel sections but they do get pretty washed out in the winter. I made a zine about riding them a couple of years ago and we’re doing a write up of Route YC for the next volume. If you’re interested, have a look at northriding.cc for a few more ride ideas and route write ups.

Nice to see they finally increased the headtube length on this...

I still really don’t understand people who buy new frames (which aren’t cheap let’s be honest) and put parts on them that are 30 years old

What’s the chain keeper you’re using? Any good?
-
• #29764
I don't know sorry, it doesn't have any branding and it came off a different complete bike.
Seems decent though, no chain drops so far but then I wouldn't expect any anyway -

Invisframe protection any good? The kits that are frame specific seem pretty good
-

A few different widths of 3m heli tape will do several bikes for less.. not frame specific but easily covers the more prone areas

Yeah looks like exactly that. Mine doesn't have the branding so probably just supplied OEM from the factory. I think it came off a Brother bike

Remember that Pinarello Grevil AXS build of mine I shared here? I'm thinking of selling it and getting something more utilitarian later down the line, maybe even Ti. Some of the comments in this thread reminded me what I enjoy gravel riding for - and top speed ain't it. Still in the contemplation stages, but in case someone is interested feel free to drop me a pm.
And no, not an Arkose lol.

Smooth brain thinking

Arkose is the perfect bike. My humble arkose in it's current road guise. I think the only stock part is the shifters (which require slight braking to shift) and the frame.
Reminiscing with a pal yesterday about @Netakure coming through with the staff purchase for me. Best value ever.

What’re the opinions on chain lube for the grav we have (aka wet mud). I’ve tried pretty much all the different styles.
Wax is the only stuff I’ve managed to get lasting more than one ride or even just the whole ride, but I find it just generally feels pretty gross and “dry”. Plus waxing is an absolute faff
Even the wettest of wet lube can be washed off half way around a route that involves essentially riding down rivers.

Good old times before gravel privateers, 200 quid events, Enve MOG and wireless mullet shifting
I've ridden around that area a few times, only on road though. Absolutely stunning but you'd better like climbing! Accidentally stumbled across a couple of 33%ers.
