  • Brush them off?
    But no not really.
But you could carry merino longjohns, then they double up as around campfire trousers and sleep in.

I do have a sea to summit silk liner but never used it.

You should've started with that. Sell it to me :)

  • No I might use it one day so it's useful. 😉

Just sleep in merino long sleeve and shorts.

  • Endless hippy/skinny loop created. Time to sit back and relax.

  • The Decathlon silk liner is the same weight as the lifeventure one but £15 cheaper. We had the previous model and it was super fragile and it tore if you looked at it wrong. Did a no questions asked warranty swap (after almost 2 years) at Decathlon in Bogota and the new one is much better.

We also have a s2s reactor extreme and the compact model too, they are nicer to sleep in because of the stretch fabric but are much bulkier than a silk liner. Check the length of the compact version, even for my quite short partner it’s not really long enough.

  • Thanks for that info.

I've no idea what mine weighs or even what brand it is. I bought it in 2005, probably from a Kathandu store in Melbourne and it's still going strong. I don't want to buy cheap stuff that fails rapidly. Sounds like we need to pay a visit to a Decathlon.

  • I like a liner, the cheap Eurohike cotton one is fine to me. Sometimes sleep in the liner in summer on top of the bag.

  • I use my liner a lot more than sleeping bag. Mine is old, not sure where from.
Use it with bivvy, sometimes with foil blanket, and for sleeping inside.

  • For anyone looking for a wide foam mat (for example if you use a 65cm air pad, and want the full width of it covered / protected, without the edges hanging off it on a 50cm wide foam mat), I got one of these recently:

    https://www.exped.com/en/products/sleeping-mats/doublemat-evazote

200 x 100cm, 260g. Can't find it anywhere in the UK, but some European shops like Alpine Trek will still send it here (many won't). Basically the same price and dimensions as two of these 195 x 50cm pads:

    https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/xl-featherweight-foam-mat/

Also useful for two people / two air pads (65cm + 50cm would work, with 7.5cm uncovered at each side), then you don't need to carry two separate foam mats. Might be good for kids / families too.

If you just want it to use it beneath a 65cm wide air pad, you could cut it down to 65 or 75cm I guess, but seems a bit of a waste.

MLD have their GoodNight EVA 1/8″ Foam Pad in 40 x 80" (100 x 200cm, same as the Exped), but won't ship it to the UK, and it's about the same price as the Exped anyway. Those are the only two 200 x 100cm foam pads I could find. Couldn't see any 200 x 65cm ones, apart from the very heavy Exped FlexMat LW.

Hope that's useful info for somebody.

  • Anyone interested in a Big Agnes Zoom UL Insulated of the wide and long? It's brand new but without original packaging and has only been inflated indoors once. I mismeasured and it's too big for what I need. Unfortunately I didn't check this until after the return window had passed.

It was a little over £200 new, I'd be looking for 150 to cover the cost of a slightly shorter replacement. Will get some photos if there's any interest.

  • Exped Ultra 3R LW here, brand new and unused:

    https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/395274/

Will leave it up a few more days but then remove it to sell elsewhere if no interest here.

In London this Saturday so could meet then.

    (Sold)

  • Hi,

What would be a the best 2 season sleeping bag, that would be a good compromise between price and size? Ideally it would be small enough for bikepacking but not imperative as it won't be used much, so don't want to spend £150+. Also perhaps not down, so I don't have to look after it.

    Thanks

  • Whatever you can afford in Decathlon, as posted a million times already in this thread
    No looking after down required

  • Thanks! I will have a more in depth look through the thread now.

  • I recently replaced my old 2 season bag with a vango ultralite pro 100, which has been very good for exactly what you’re describing

  • If you're not time pressured, it's also worth keeping an eye on eBay although you'll want to be sure the bag ain't too old and be prepared to let items go if prices start going up

  • Silk Silky Silkworm Silk Silk Silk bag liner*

    https://scottishsilkworm.co.uk/product/scottish-silkworm-micro-art-silk-sleeping-bag-liner/

*not actually fucking silk. How is this kind of thing not false advertising?

Decathlon selling actual silk liner but the whole point of them is for keeping the bag clean, why would you make a white one? "It's mud! Not poo!"

    https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/trekking-silk-bag-liner-mt500/_/R-p-323651

  • Because dye adds to the weight and it's all about the gainz

  • Normally white is dyed though, no? Like, no fabric/yarn/silk/whatever is brilliant white by default so they've just fucked chemicals over it to make it white and show all the stains better.

  • I was only joking but I'd assume white is some sort of bleach or acid wash rather than a stained colour.
They would have to do this prior to colouring it anyway to allow for consistency. It's all down to ££ really.

Either way is colour really your biggest concern? If so buy a packet of dylon and go wild on the colour of your choice? You could even tie dye it! Or just SFAB brown?

  • Nah, price and size. Colour is a minor point - I just thought white was an odd choice.

  • I got one of these new Rab bags. It's obviously nice but the design is funky, it doesn't open fully so it's not a quilt so it's narrow temp use. Incredibly light though and so small pack. Will be awesome for the high Pyrenees hike I plan this summer.

I need to work out how to make it openable though.

Bring it to the start and I'll find out for you... :D
