  • Does anyone else cat suffer with nystagmus? (Unintentional eye movement)
Fleur was recently in for a teeth cleaning but the vet noticed her eyes never really stop moving, it’s a tiny amount which we’d never noticed or just put down to her being generally nervous.

It can be a symptom of neurological disorders or cancer/legions.

It also happens to be a completely harmless quirk found in cats with Siamese/Persian genes.

So yesterday involved an incredibly expensive consultation with one of only a handful of people in the uk capable of diagnosing it. Longest road trip Fleur has ever had since we adopted her going all the way to Cambridge.
Poor sausage cried the whole way there.

After lots of behavioural/reaction tests the two vets have concluded it’s almost certainly the benign version of the condition and at this point didn’t warrant a CT scan or anything more invasive at this stage but we’re now on the look out for wobbles, missed jumps and random head tilting.

Stressful week, made more odd by the fact that other than that Fleur appears to be in the best shape of her life for a 9yr old!

She’s back to being a noisy demanding little princess now…

TL:DR — glad we have insurance.
