It was discussed!

100% this. Bit everything lined up better. Would maybe do a full height cupboard by the door and open shelves in the middle. Oh and fill the space between the doors properly not just a random sized double cupboard.

This seems like a sub optimal bike route through kitchen…

Yeah I’m hoping the kitchen designer will not use the first cupboards that come up on the ikea site to plan out kitchen 🤣

• #9158
This layout doesn’t really give any flow from garden through kitchen to house though?
-
• #9159
Fair. Could cut down peninsula a bit, and also make it more narrow. A bit like this one.. https://architectureforlondon.com/project/low-energy-house/

Ours is just standard cabinet depth with 5 drawers to about head height and a top shelf section for all the bakery guff.
Edit. It's the one to right of the fridge.
No island for us, I built a 3m dining table

Having just visited a friend on the street, feel like I’m on the right path, they have larger I think 800mm deep worktops. This feels like a game changer!
Smaller door than on my plan, but much bigger window behind sink which folds. Almost a kitchen garden serving hatch.
No island and nothing on the opposing wall.
Small shelves about worktop. I might still opt for some cabinets here.
@dbr that stainless steel worktop on your insta have any further detail? -

4mm solid plate with welded in sink, same as ours

How does it price against say granite?
Did you make and fit that kitchen? -
• #9165
I did yeah. No idea about granite I’m afraid, not a material I’d use for a worktop.
-
• #9166
Ok cool, I’ve dropped you and email :-)

Stainless is cheaper than granite. Maybe half the price. A DBR stainless worktop and sink is the pro-choice.

With the kitchen pretty much complete and the memory of the fatigue that goes along with building works fading, we're about to start a small refresh of the tiny toilet room.
I like a seperate toilet and bathroom so won't be knocking it through to the bathroom.
Idea is to get a Thomas Crapper Viceroy toilet, get the original picture rail remanufactured so I can hang a calander in there, from a piece scavenged from a neighbour and get that up, get some proper skirting board in there, get it skimmed and then wallpapered with something trendy.
Where's a decent place to shop for modern wallpaper designs? Pic of the gopping current painted textured wallpaper attached.

What are the approximate dimensions of the room? Our place has a similar layout with island in the middle but not leaving enough room for a dining table at the side.
Would be nice to have both, but currently feels like the worst of both worlds.

I think we’d be looking at 4.5m wide, the ends with openings.
5m deep. What’s yours? Got any pics? -
• #9171
for reference, this is a plan of ours, approx 4.5m x 3m internal.
at the moment we have the sofa in the extension and the dining table in the dining room but we switch it up occasionally.
the island is freestanding so can also move if necessary to open up the whole space.
it looks quite tight on the plan but in reality it's not.

Where are your zones - prep, cook, clean, tea - how much do they overlap and where will people be when they are in the kitchen doing things.
That corner could end up being where all the things happen.
-
• #9173
Yeah I was thinking about this, I think making the sink run a bit longer and moving the cookers more central would help…?
-
• #9174
Would help your slow cornering tekkers.

Ours is 4.2x4.6m according to the estate agents. We removed the breakfast bar bit and added a table in the gap (custom @dbr legs to optimise space).
Glad we did as we use is for most meals and now even more with a 6 month old. Dining room (corridor) is great for guests etc, but the light in the extension makes it the go to place.
It’s narrower than yours, and the island is spaced so you can open the dishwasher and the DRAW opposite at the same time, which is probably unnecessary.
Edit. I’m constantly trying to work out how to re-do the layout without it becoming a 40k kitchen. Mainly the massive fridge freezer on the opposite side of the kitchen from everything else.

could only be improved if slightly sloping so they fell forward always. Maybe a spring.
