  • Quite enjoyed the first two episodes. Not as good as Band of Brothers (yet) but I hope it gets a little more involved than "bit of 40's cosplay" followed by a bit of sheer terror in the skies.

  • It felt like it drifted a bit, felt like it could have been more developed. But I loved the scene at the dance with Cameo’s Candy reverbed to hell and back.

  • I hope it gets a little more involved

Ditto, couldn't believe how Memphis Belle the first episode was, felt like it could have been made 30 years ago. Hunky/creepy Elvis dialling in the suave, wistful, measured American pilot i've not seen since the last WW2 series featuring American G.I's i watched.

  • Regarding True Detective..

..my theory is that a lot of people can't really get over the fact that S01 was absolutely awesome, S02 very lukewarm in comparison, S03 was good but not for everybody I guess - and now there's the fourth season, and you still won't get the back the high that S01 gave you.

I love the new season. To be honest the only thing I don't like about it is the poster.
That opening sequence felt a bit odd the first seconds (due to the song, mainly), but I soon realized it just is a very different thing compared to S01, also it's really 2024 now, not 2014 any more, the world has turned.

  • also it's really 2024 now, not 2014 any more, the world has turned.

exactly, there is a lot of good stuff being made, this derivative drivel is not it.

  • ..sounds to me like you'd be happier watching some other stuff then 💁

  • People who sat through s2 are owed by the franchise

  • Now I am reading it's not even supposed to be True Detective so that makes more sense.
That's why the 5 year break and none of the original team are involved. Kinda unfair to then
be surprised when people compare it to the other seasons.

One thing López didn't want to be compared to, at least at first, was to the first three seasons of True Detective. But, that's because when she envisioned the project originally, it had nothing to do with the show. López says she initially pitched an idea for a project called Night Country, which she describes as "a murder mystery in the ice," and it was HBO who suggested it could be True Detective instead

  • Bizarre. “We like it, but we want it to piggyback on this IP”.

I guess it kinda worked. Provoked a lot of discussion.

I’m surprised I don’t completely dislike it and will finish it (although quite glad it’s only 6 eps). Usually the supernatural horror would have had me turning it off instantly, but I’m invested now. I like Evangeline and the sidekick newbie. Plus The Thing is my favourite ever movie, to which I’m seeing a lot of homage.

Basically agree with a lot of what’s been said up thread. It’s not great (S1), not terrible (S2). It’s just cheap. Very, very cheap in places. I can’t believe the Guardian gave it 5 stars, though.

  • We all watching @Chung on Gladiators tomorrow yeah?

  • What...

  • He's a contender

  • Completely missed this. How did he do?

  • He won!

  • Just watched the first episode of Mr and Mrs Smith on Prime.

It really is promising, nothing stylistically like the film. Much more understated and slower paced.

Don't know why, but it reminds me of Lost In Translation in aesthetic, but with spies and guns...

It ends with a montage of the rest of the series and there are some great guest stars coming up

  • Watching the episode now...top t shirt in the interview.

  • We were supporting in this house. Not because we knew who it was, but it seemed funny for someone whose sports of choice were ballet and ultimate frisbee to give the Glads a going over.

  • No mention of cycling ;)

  • Well, he didn't want people to think he was a twat...

  • Loved M&M it’s been great. Really pleased they kept the parallels to the film to a minimum. Really hope there’s a 2nd season

  • Really getting back into Gomorrah. Closing in on the end of S2. Enjoying the tactics/politics between the Alliance and the Savastano clan.

But fuck me does it make Napples look like a hole.

  • That is the point.

Not as if Saviano story of being chased by a certain mafia group is anything more than fiction. Am awaiting for some comment about the evil eye or some sort of other superstitious shite. As proof of my comment look up monster of Florence and that American woman that allegedly killed her room mate. Once you have made a name for yourself of the back of false accusations you need to protect that position.never let the truth get in the way.

  • Very much enjoyed 'Here we go' on the BBC. Decent inoffensive silly fun.

  • Did you lot know that sky brought back never mind the buzzcocks?

Am watching the first episode now...with Greg Davies as chair

  • Yeah, it's obviously not quite as good as the OG but it's entertaining enough. We went to one of the tapings a couple of years ago, they film about 2 hours worth of footage for a 45-minute show so as you can imagine, there's plenty of stuff that doesn't make it on.
My favourite bit is Jamali absolutely tearing into the ID parade guests immediately.
