Spoke to them, they only do one crumbly fudge, salted caramel.
I like salted caramel but at what point did it become the de facto thing to add to foodstuffs ?

Aren't this lot localish to you @dancing james ? (give or take 100 miles)

Salted caramel fudge is also annoyingly redundant, since it's just combining two flavours of sugar (plus the salt).
Tablet (search for "tablet fudge" or similar) should be guaranteed to be crumbly.

Online returns question! My wife has just bought a load of MAAP gear, all in two sizes, from their sale.
On going to return the ones that were too big, MAAP say they do not refund sale items, and will only offer exchange/store credit. It's a bit cheeky - the product pages all say "Free shipping and returns" and its only if you click into that section that it says "not on sale items".
The bigger issue though is that I thought this wasn't allowed - doesn't whatever the "Distance Selling Regulations" are called these days cover her?
(Edit - found a page on their site that essentially says "we're Australian mate, and follow Australian law - does that get them out of it, even though they are selling to the UK? I wouldn't have thought so...)

Essentially, will any modestly priced Solar Power CCTV security camera which takes an SD card work without the internet? I assume it stores video and wouldn’t be able to access it from my phone from home at any point (as it’s not connected to wifi)
-
• #120383
does that get them out of it, even though they are selling to the UK?
Yes. Distance selling regulations are local laws for local people. Aussie corporations are no more bound by them than are Somali pirates.

Any accountants on here? Benefits advisors perhaps? If I was the owner and occupier of a piece of land used purchased and used solely for my business purposes would it qualify as a business premises even if it didn’t have a postal address but was within a postcode and registered with the land registry if that makes sense. I ask in relation to means tested benefits which disregard business premises as capital/savings.
Thanks in advance -

Isn’t that just a generic wildlife camera as found all over Amazon. We have a solar one, works well, night vision mode isn’t too bad either, no Wi-Fi or even phone signal where it is.

• #120386
I don't think I can answer, but I'd be looking to see what businesses like dog agility places do, as they're just patches of land.

It’s about being the location where the commercial activity or business is carried out.

So is that basically it stores video on an SD card - switching on via some sort of motion sensor - and the only to access the footage is in person by physically removing the SD card? My plan is to have a camera 15ft up a scaffold pole.
-
• #120389
Yes motion sensor, you set the recording time, IR for low light.
You can get some with Bluetooth access to review images - can’t recall if ours has it, I’ve certainly never used it if it has and it’s in Ireland so I can’t check.

• #120390
So how do you access the video? Sorry if that’s a silly question.
ie. I am in a location different to the camera. Someone calls to say my property has been damaged so I wish to access a recording the camera (which isn’t linked to wi-fi as is just in a field) made last night when the damage occurred. How do I view the footage or can I not? As a note, the field is in a 3/4G area - ie I can use my phone there -
• #120391
how do you access the video?
Climb up the scaffold pole.
Sounds like what you really need is a camera with mobile data connection streaming to a digital video recorder either at home or in a server farm.
-
• #120392
Idk the answer, but calling hmrc benefits (and making contemporaries note) would give you a solid answer without paying an accountant.
-
• #120393
That is the kind of info I need (climb up the scaffold pole included btw). Soooooo, and thanks for being so helpful, what does this actually mean. So any solar power camera with a mobile data connection? Do I need some sort of sim for this? Digital video recorder - so that’s a hard drive or cloud storage that I can access from home or wherever I am via my phone for example? Thanks again?
-
• #120394
Thanks - seems like the address is more for HMRC to turn up even though by definition it’s where commercial activity and business takes place. Options include setting up limited company or maybe getting a postbox there and a postal address essentially. Many thanks again

The problem is that you are jumping ahead to specifics of a given solution while also asking what solution you need. Anything is possible given enough time, resources and money, up to a surveillance drone army.
It is unlikely you will get answers until you set some parameters, e.g.:
As a property owner
I need to view video of property at any point in the previous x hours/days,
at any time of day,
within x hours of being notified of an incident,
from anywhere in the world (do you need this or not?)So that I can assess any damage
In order to....(this is critical, as it will determine number of cameras, night capability, positioning, recording duration, quality, etc etc...)
But it kind of goes without saying that any local-only video storage is very susceptible to theft or destruction.

Maybe this could go in the WFH thread, but is there a monitor stand out there that allows me to mount both a screen and an elgato key light on the same stand?
-
• #120397
Search "solar powered 4g security camera" on your favourite search engine. There are many options.
Yes, you'll need a SIM and a data plan.
Viewing remotely will usually require some shonky phone app provided by the manufacturer, and storing recordings anywhere but on the camera will involve paying the manufacturer a monthly fee.

Where did they ship from and who is your contract with? Apparently 'All orders are dispatched out of Birmingham, United Kingdom.' and their is a MAAP APPAREL UK LIMITED registered at companies house. They make a song and dance about including UK VAT. Sounds like they are sailing close to the wind but you probably need a lawyer or something. Maybe a consumer rights journalist.

If you have a VAT number on your invoice you can check who it is with here:

You know when someone’s listening to their phone on loud, on the Overground… is it too much to ask “ARE YOU FUCKING DEAF OR WHAT?”?
Asking for a friend who got out of the wrong side of the bed, whose day went downhill from that point.
If it takes a 9 speed cassette without a spacer then 12 speed will be too wide to fit. You need to find a freehub (or more likely, wheel) advertised as taking an 11 speed road cassette, as 12 speed uses the same width.
