  • If they’re finished with osmo you could do a tint on top, but I suspect they’ll have been factory spray lacquered so it’d be a no go

  • More dining table chat, has anyone replaced the runners on an extending dining table? The ones on ours have collapsed so need sorting out. I have bodged a repair but it means the table no longer extends.

  • I want more nineties furniture.

    Better late than never.

  • Hahaha yeah.
It's when I started looking at design/going to the pricy furniture shops as a teen/preteen.

  • Any interest in an ercol daybed I bought it new around 2015 I think, factory black frame.
I replaced the covers and cushions a few years ago.
It has some puppy nibbles on the left arm as you face it and could do with some new webbing.
Would offers around £500 be fair?

  • Kinda a gardening question, kinda furniture, so I'm asking in both threads.

Anyone have recommendations for some good quality outdoor furniture for eating meals on our deck in summer, for 6-8 people? Ideally I'd like wood because I think it looks nicer in a garden than anything artificial, but I could be swayed for the right product.

We bought a set a few years back that looked really nice. Table, 2 benches and 2 stools for £1,500. Wooden tops, and powder coated metal legs. However, the quality was atrocious, and the coating protecting the wood that we'd been assured was really rugged and wouldn't need any maintenance any time soon started peeling extremely quickly. We've had 3 replacement sets under warranty now and they've all done the same thing. During my latest attempt to get another warranty replacement we've learned the manufacturer has discontinued the model due to the issues I've faced, and so I'll be given a refund. Hence me now looking for something completely different.

I don't have a set budget, and realise I'll probably have to spend a lot to get something that will last well. I'd rather that than replacing every couple of years, though.

  • Roda Levante or Kettal Riva if the budget stretches that far.

  • God, both are lovely. Lots of sites needing me to request a quote, but the prices I can find suggest about a grand per chair! I'm afraid the budget won't even get close

  • Matthew Hilton Eos
    Butterfield Brothers 19
    Skagen table/bench

We went for Hay Palissade seats and benches - well made and looks good. But it’s metal whereas above ones are wood

  • Sounds like you have a budget of 1500 to paint the flaking wood?

All wooden furniture outdoors needs maintenance. Teak needs oiling, painted wood needs repainting, and nothing will last long if left outside all year without maintenance.

  • Eos and 19 are both aluminium, but I think metal is a better shout anyway, unless spending £400+ a chair..

  • How solid are your Hay? How prone to weathering etc - do they need to be covered/need much maintenance? I want metal because I have no intention of looking after wood that's kept outdoors.

  • They’re powdercoated with a zinc primer so pretty durable. If you want them to outlive you get the galvanised version.

  • Galvanised things outliving me.

    🥵

  • They’re solid. Ours live outside all year round uncovered. No issues. We have olive green bc that’s what TMH lyfe told us to do

  • Ah I didn’t realise - I couldn’t see the material listed so assumed wood

  • Anyone got some recommendations for treating pine? Internal shelves, I'd like to avoid yellowing. My go to would be an osmo, with white tint. But wondering whether a wax and polish might work better.

  • White wash with soap flakes is nice, used it on some beech table tops

  • I really need some side tables, the £5 IKEA ones I bought as a temporary measure in 2009 are starting to look a bit worn.

Probably wooden, definitely not glass. A nesting set of 3 would be ideal but could go with 2 or 3 non-nesting. Nothing too modern, nothing too old.

To go with this sofa and some kind of pale wood laminate floor (although that will be changing at some point).

Any ideas/places to look gratefully received.

  • Kai Kristiansen nesting tables.

  • Excellent option thank you
