  • Have you been tempted to swap the speaker? I’ve heard a lot of people have put greenbacks in them or even the neodymium creamback.

  • Both the guitarists in my band use some kind of Two Notes load box. They seem happy and neither of them have any ability to dodge GAS, so if the OX offered something really significant over the Two Notes, that’s what they’d have. Though I can’t guarantee they haven’t bought one since we last recorded.

  • I'm going to try very hard to avoid going down this rabbit hole... (I think it sounds fine)...

  • Exactly my position…

  • As someone who is now sitting on a spendy speaker they can't shift, I think that's a smart move on both your parts.

  • I’ve spent years chasing tone and it’s not particularly rewarding. Yes I’ve learned a lot in process and I’ve built guitars and pedals myself which was cool, but ultimately I should have just put some discipline and structure around my playing to improve as a guitarist.

  • Nice little set up for my daughter, she’s only 6 and just started a school band thing. Hoping it sticks 🤞 yet to play the mini JM properly must give it a blast.

  • Nice! Got my 6 year old the mini strat for xmas there, they're pretty nice little things to play. The amount of string bending you can do with the stock strings is pretty ridiculous. Haven't had any issues with it falling out of tune easily which I heard a lot of.

  • A heavier gauge of string is key to making these mini-Fenders useable. I think I put 12s on my daughter's JM.

  • And with the addition of the strandberg I need to shift the strat. 1987 MIJ E series contemporary squire - 12" radius, basswood, maple. It has the system one trem - the arm is loose though. Shout if anyone is interested and i'll send more info!

  • Yeah I've got a set of 11s on standby, but figured I may as well make the most of the stock ones

  • Strong few pages. Love the 63 SG chat. Let us know what you decide dude!

  • I think I'm sold on a Pelham Blue refin. Maybe with the addition of a little aged yellowing. I've spoken to someone about it, they can't do it until June/July, and it takes 3 months ish in total. They can also do ageing in light, medium and heavy.

Gives me time to get the correct screws for the pickups, find an original trem arm and if possible some control knobs (or I'll just get some reliced ones from StewMac)

Just need to save up now!

(this is an example of how Pelham Blue can age!)

  • How long have you had it? Don’t recall it coming up before.

  • Nice thing happened here this week, friend of mine’s dad passed away last year, his dad was a guitarist and I helped my mate flog his collection of guitars and pedals. Some really nice stuff. Last week my mate gave me his dad’s guitar tool box, so now I have a load of really useful things like fret and nut files to help me and my mates sort out and set up our guitars and our kids’ guitars.

  • I've had it since 2002 I think. Swapped it for a 1969 Marshall Bluesbreaker. Which would be worth a lot more now comparatively

  • It’s a beautiful thing man. Totally the right thing to do to re-refin given the poly. And agree with TS that a neck break is standard, no need to treat it as b-stock! Can’t wait to see how it comes out.

  • If you want it to age like an OG Pelham Blue you'll have to do your research. AFAIK it's the nitro that discolours creating the green colour but not sure if there's some other chemical interaction between the colour and the clear.

It's gonna look fantastic, whatever you do to it. 🙏

  • Yeah totally agree with you. They can colour adjust their vintage paint range but it will also react and age naturally anyway. So it might be a fine line.

  • Thanks I'm very excited. This is all to add value to sell but I know right now once it's done I'll want to keep it and play it. For a while anyway 😬😂

  • Second vote for Rich in Wales by the way. He's as sound as they come and his work is impeccable at an implausibly good price!

  • I'll contact him. If he can do it quicker than June/July that would be great

  • I bought two fuzzes this week, an old Fredric Unpleasant Companion (Shin Ei Companion clone but with less treble than an OG unfortunately, was hoping for unhinged Bryan Gregory craziness) and a Deaf Crush Typhoon (a heavily modded souped-up Fuzz Face clone, it's an uncontrollable beast) my mate Nick built for me.

    Silly, but fun, purchases. ⚡
