  • Bought a 500 year old palazzo in Nardò about 8 years ago and still finding stuff to do. Latest project is to remove paint we insisted they put on as we wanted it to look pristine… if only we’d listened.

    Not on Facebook, but subscribing to this thread;

  • Sure, thought you were wanting to see everything, sorry.

  • More pics here please. And more info? Do you live here now?

  • Hi, we moved here 6 years ago yes. I’ve never been back. At the moment half of the palazzo is a b and b but we are taking 3 rooms back for our part at the end of the year.
It dates from 1528 and we love it.
We’re trying to get some work done whilst we are closed to save time on the renovations at the end of the year.

  • Did you get help to buy it from the local authority? I was watching a show on TV the other day where they were helping people (local or foreign) to buy this type of property to stimulate local economies

  • Here’s a few photos.

  • We applied for a grant towards the cost of renovating the part we use for the business but there are lots of hoops.

  • Very nice but do you ride fixed?

  • Nope

  • Love the Benottos

  • Thanks. I found the gold one abandoned in a local bike mechanics workshop loft. It had been his bike but he’d not used it for years. It had obviously had a bad respray so I stripped it back to bare metal, respoked and renewed the tyres and hubs, new cables with vintage look tubes, refurbed all the Suntour VX running gear and new Benotto tape and Concor sadddle. Problem is it’s too big for me and I’ll be lucky if I break even financially, never mind the days I spent stripping paint etc.
It was, as they say, a labour of love.

  • Hang it on the wall

  • Not sure I’d get away with that…

  • Subbed

  • Probably easier than stripping the paint of the walls.... 🙃

  • Another labour of love…🤦‍♂️

  • That’s me done for now. These will get looked at by the local restorer at the end of the year when we close and renew the floors etc, hopefully he will pick out more details.

  • Are you originally from the UK? How was it to move to Italy? Was it hard to learn the language?
    Lovely bikes btw!

  • Subscribed. More pics please for those of us who don't facebook

  • Hi, yes we were from a town called Gainsborough. The move was the best thing we ever did, but the language is hard. Nowhere near fluent yet.

  • What sort of things would you like to see as I’ve got so many?
