  • Quick question, if a grinder is creating an increase in fines, is it likely that needing a clean is causing it? Also acknowledge it's a downwards spiral because more fines = more need for cleaning.

The universe seems to be aligning that after watching a recent JH video where I saw the Lagom Mini for the first time and really liked it, my Svart seems to have really ramped up it's overproduction of fines and the filter choking problem I talked about before seems to have returned with a vengeance.

Will try cleaning the Svart more frequently before doing anything rash but you know what it's like when a little brain worm sets in.

  • I'm just finding it strange that gradually all the coffee I'm grinding is producing loads of fines. Before when I raised this issue it felt like it was just specific beans, and then I'd buy something different and they'd be normal, but now the last 5 bags of beans, different roasters, different countries, different processes, are all producing so many fines that the filter paper is choking and overflowing.

    Brewer is Sage Precision.

I've tried going down on the grind size massively and it's not really making a difference.

I haven't cleaned the burrs so far because spraying the beans to minimise static (which is bad on the Wilfa Svart) seems to do a really good job of keeping the burrs clean so they don't look scummy at all.

The only solution I have is to brew less coffee at a time but I might as well just chuck the precision brewer in the bin then and just use the clever dripper into a thermos. It worked great for so long and now I'm just getting this bullshit that's making my coffee taste bad.
